I feel massively let down by this decision. I just can't fathom it???



I have seen next to nothing this year to suggest that he is the right man and that he has the capability.

Add to that the fact that this will do nothing to encourage Stronghold members to sign up. Quite the opposite in fact and I don't blame any single one of them that cancels their membership...

i feel angry, how you can reward a coach with a SL contract with poor performances yet at the same time release 4 players who were involved in them performances. I can see a lot of people looking at this and not bothering with the Vikings stronghold next year. If we are appealing for fans as it is and struggling to attract a new audience, this definately wont help.



Let down.

It will take something special over the next few months for me to sign up nthe the stronghold. Cant see it happening though.

fair to say. you really should e mail those points to julie G. they are certainly valid. maybe if some of us point out that you cant harp on about wanting people to join the stronghold whilst making extremely unattractive, nonsensical decisions like this, then maybe some at the club might begin to get it.

You've got three years to bed in. If he does the business the game over here will have a fanstastic British coach and you'll have a massive feather in your cap for showing faith. He'll have far better players to work with and will be supported by another experienced SL coach in Cullen. Gotta give him a chance in the first year at least. I know fans probably wanted a big name to wow the media but big names don't always bring home the bacon. I really hope he does well.

On press conference to be fair it's not unusual to call one and clubs need as much publicity as you can get. It was us fans that built up the hype etc so naturally feel a bit deflated but was always on the cards.

Shit decision. It could turn out to be disastrous. He can’t even cope in the Championship.

As ive wrote on the other site im not Betts biggest fan but for the continuity of recruitment and bringing a squad together for next year its the right decsion with the current setup in place.



No coach worth his salt was going to come in and work under Cull and share recruitment and tasks with him.



It aint perfect but weve got to back it and get this squad together for next year.



We really didnt need more change. Were far to accustomed to a change of coach every year and a half and the repurcussions on the squad that it brings.

There will be some difficult days ahead but it is your loyalty that has got you to SL , dont throw all those years of support out of the window now



Time to get behind you club,team,owner and players and do all you can to make this season a success and build up for next year

Will it affect players decisions whether they come here or not knowing Betts will be the Widnes coach in SL? maybe. There should be no more, we'll give him a chance and see how he gets on, its time for Betts to show us what he's made of. If i was a young British coach giving a shot atr SL for 3 years, probably longer i'd make every second count. Us as fans and as a club should get behind Betts, if we dont we make it harder for ourselves.



It wasn't the announcement i wanted or expected and i do think it may keep a few fans away but it wont keep me away. You never know what to expect with Widnes but thats what i love and hopefully here's to still a successful campaign in the super dooper league

I think I am finally reaching the acceptance stage. I'm disappointed but like a rat in a scientists cage I have come to accept that there is little that can be done to change the situation.



Best just to pucker up and wait for the lipstick to be applied.

I'm fed up feeling negative and down about Widnes. Ever since we've gone down from SL its been 5/6 years of ifs/but/maybes and mainly maybe nots. We lost 2 grind finals and suffered administration trying to get to SL. We're finally there and i'm not going to let this decision get me down. It may be the wrong decision who knows but we're stuck with it and the sooner people realise this the easier we can move on.

I'd be letting SL take care of itself , there is this season to be played for yet , and although you haven't made the most comfortable of starts , with Fax and to a lesser degree Barrow struggling , and yes Leigh and Fev at the moment looking good , a 3 rd place finish is well on the cards , requiring only one good away performance to be in a GF , where as we know anything can happen

I think thats why people are about peed off with todays announcement, the way we have been playing this year. However not even God as coach and kitman Moses could coachRoparti to a try





Maybe this will give Dennis the push he needs to get the ball rolling in the right direction.

One benefit is he is young and could easily be here for a good few years if goes well... Only really Wigan job could sway him I guess. Whereas likes of Michael Maguire will jump back NRL once chance arises. I think 'stop gap til England job' was purely speculative based on him applying for that role (and tbh could do both anyway if we got to that stage).



At least we know where we are now as do the current players so everyone at the club knows which direction we are going in and we are in this together now!

No. No matter how much money and effort we put in it won't come close to that of SO'C and he has made this choice with the rest of the board.

Wrong decision. Rubbish. Complete let down.

Nothing I've seen from Betts in either his time at Wigan or Widnes has given me confidence in his abilities as a coach.



His poor and at times weak decision making, his demeanour in the stands, his handling of the media as well as his inability to battle back against adversity point to this being at best a huge gamble from Widnes.



I will always remember his last interview at Wigan after a defeat against Huddersfield as possibly the most embarrassing one I've seen from a Wigan coach. Shoulders slumped and acting like a 5 year old child, the interview pretty much went along the lines of 'We're crap, I don't know what to do, so we're screwed.'



You needed a strong and experienced leader at a time of great transition for your club. Noble would have been perfect. Betts is probably the exact opposite of that.

It's only 4 quid a week, if you need to think about it go and "support" someone else
