Welcome to the NEW RLFANS.COM. After twenty-five years of service, the old site expired over the last few days. To maintain service we have had no option but to make an early switch to the new site which was in development/testing. Some elements of the new site are unfinished, such as; page numbering and quotations. We will fix these minor issues as soon as we can, please bear with us. | Quote Dave T="Dave T"I can understand people not wanting Wire to win (or Saints, Wigan or Hudds, as everybody has different reasons) but this post is just a load of bitter nonsense.
You speak of understanding the reasons why fans of certain clubs don't want certain other clubs to prosper. The underpinning reason is called tradition. Exactly the same for me yet with the important add-on of principled reasons concerning the very soul of RL.
And you bet I'm bitter, that's what the demise of RL's soul under the poppycock administration of the game since 1995 does to decent-minded followers of it. RL didn't start in that year.
Seeing as you then call it "nonsense", tell me where I'm wrong on everything I said, fella. Just on those things in themselves, none of the so-called positives Lewis, Wood et al mealy-mouth their way through every now and then in defiance of reality. Which a lapdog RL media then fall over themselves to support. This is no defence to what I said.
And none of that tosh either about RL being so down on its knees the inception of SL and its modus operandi since has saved it. Lindsay and co. savaged the sport overnight - it is about respect for ALL clubs then, and now. It's how not why you implement necessary change.
Surely the Challenge Cup is the one bit of RL that hasn't changed. It hasn;t been affected by licensing etc. I can understand Widnes fans being bitter about SL (until they get in there in a couple of years, and then everything will be forgotten), but I don;t really understand the attack on the cup.'"
How ironic you seeing tradition in the Challenge Cup, which I didn't attack. Reread what I said. The only people who attacked its status were those who tossed it up in the air, faffed around with its long-standing format and banished it to a daft August conclusion. Lindsay and co. initially. Summer RL is no excuse for it.
What particularly galls me with folk like you is how you just can't grasp the plain fact change doesn't guarantee progress. If not it is simply change for change's sake. Like I've said, it's HOW you do it.

| Quote Bertie Magoo's PA="Bertie Magoo's PA"Strangely I am more inclined to agree with you nowadays.
However I do not trust the RFL as far as I can throw them, but if we manage to win another NRC and a gf, and maintain an average gate of anything between 3-4k, I can't see a reason for them not to allow us entry.
You are spot on about the positive attitude that the club have displayed though since last July. SOC should be congratulated for that. Things looking to be coming together nicely on the paddock too round about now. A win on Sunday is vital.
As for Wires, I hope u lose every game anyway.
Be great to be packed into that away end at the Geri Halliwell again, missed the local games. Used to be immense'" Whilst I can certainly understand any lack of trust you may have, I genuinely believe that Widnes will be in next time. As a club you have got your head down, the fans have supported the team, and you have done well.
You already have things like finances and stadium in place, and the excuse of liquidation will not be there next year when decisions are being made.

Jeeze. It is still the same tournament, and the crowds for the final are as big as ever. Stop being a drama queen.
My team is involved in the semi this week, and the excitement around the town is as great as any previous semi final, whatever the date was.

I can see both points tbh.
I cannot be d with the challenge cup, or SL.
I don't really support the sport of Rugby League. I support the Widnes Vikings.
Before the last time Widnes got screwed I used to go to the odd grand final, but now I am just not that interested.
I just don't really care for SL, and the RFL in general, and would rather support my club, rather that a sports governing body who have seeked to screw my team over time and time again.
I'm not bitter about it, I've just lost heart for the sport in general. So if Widnes are not involved, I don't really care.

"Drama queen" - how novel. How inappropriate. There is no "drama" involved in the points I make, you noodle. And, if you can't see that the August shift is detrimental to the competition as a whole - for Christ's sake why such an illogical gap between the quarters and semis/final, which actually is a half-baked attempt to give them exclusive importance, something no other body in charge of an outdoor team sport but ours could dream up - then you're welcome to the hysteria you say your town is experiencing at this time.
It isn't just about it being in August, it is a whole modus operandi. Where manipulation to promote not only Sky's agenda but the personal ones of, hilariously, folk who know f**k all about RL. And this results in change for change's sake.
The Challenge Cup has been degraded. Laughably, for the sake of a Grand Final system where THE most prestigious achievement, that of being the showcase league champions, now means nothing.
You go and enjoy your semi-final tomorrow. Just don't think your fleeting enthusiasm represents anything like the genuine passion RL's once-beloved Challenge Cup used to engender; across ALL of RL.
