He plays a big part in it, he does the negotiating.
As I said which other SL club would Shaul get into, he isnt a top FB snd it's such a pivotal position. If we keep renewing these type of players we wont progress.

... a bit different from "in charge of recruitment."
Rugby is usually a simple game, when forwards dominate, the halfbacks dictate play and the backs play to their strengths.
Unfortunately, Connor isn't a halfback, and Carlos isn't one either, particularly when paired up with Jake.

| Carlos is better at half back than Connor is. I thought Connor would end up in the NRL, but not anymore.
Still think a lot of our players would look far better in other teams that are well coached, with good systems in place.

Any player good, bad or indifferent would look better in a team that is well coached, with good systems in place. A good player will also perform well in a team that is not well coached, they are then identified or become disillusioned and move on to better teams. A few like Taylor will sacrifice a career at the top to play for their boyhood team.

I much prefer Carlos in the centres (I'd rate him as our best centre in the Super League era) but he can do a good job at stand off. In 2016 he took over the position when Leon Pryce was injured and we had a good winning record with him and Sneyd as a half back partnership including the quarters, semi and final in the winning Cup run.

I agree, he's a much better centre.
He was outstanding against Cas, but a different player altogether when we came up against Wigan a few days later.

Think that was more to with the pack and backs getting us on the front foot, put Connor at 6 in that 2016 team, you would see a different player.

Ypu knew what I meant, we have no one above coaching level with Rugby experience to make big decisions on recruitment and retention.
Still no one has answered my question about Shaul, which other SL teams would he ft into, he simply isnt good enough. He rarely make the right decision with ball in hand, poor under the high ball and defence.

Nice one . Just shows we’re looking all over for players,
Noticed the email address mentions mark jones. I presume that’s just because it’s a common welsh name, and it’s not our former player?

Mark Jones, if he’s the same, I remember his debut at the Boulevard in the A team, He was a giant compared to the other lads, then he got the ball and made a sensational long break, wow I thought.
Sadly through injuries and form he never seemed to hit the expectations promised, believe he was around the same era when we had another good lad Brian Carney
It’s great Hull are looking in the valleys again, and considering the power of Union a very good bit of business, hopefully another good Welsh lad.

According to this article the ex Hull player Mark Jones relocated to the Middle East a few years back.
[urlhttps://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/rugby/rugby-news/whats-become-welsh-rugbys-most-14052003[/url
Jones made a bit of RL history by becoming the first player to come on as a blood bin substitution, replacing Steve McNamara in the Charity Shield against Wigan at Gateshead in August 1991 - his Hull debut.

About 5 years between Jones leaving and Carney arriving with Gateshead

| Lee Crooks will have coached this lad in the Welsh youth set up. Danny Wilson was the coach of the England team that the Welsh under 16s played against.
Theres your link I guess.

| all this talk of half backs - i think our problems start in the forwards. Throughout history successful FC teams have always had a big tough pack with plenty of go forward and hitting hard in defence. i don't remotely see that with our current team
halves need a platform and a screen to play behind, they don't get that with the current team, we are on the back foot too much

It's not the forwards but rather our defensive structure I feel.
We wait for the opposition to come to us all too often, giving all the momentum to them in collision.

It annoys me so much, slowest defensive line speed in the league for seasons now, and the poorest goal line defence to match, really is depressing! Thank god for the NRL

Good point - combiination of both i think. You need the coaching and structure but also the players who are willing to put that extra bit of effort in to have a fast line speed, perhaps expecting a few hard collisions as a result

| I think our forwards (Props and backrowers), our main issues are the pivots, FB, halfback (Sneyd and Connor) and hooker. I still think a coach coach like Watson would address and improve some of these players, so that has to be the priority.

Whilst the Covid issue, and associated reduced income, continues I can't see AP investing more, and I can't blame him for not doing so, too much uncertainty, our season js over, just making up the numbers for Sky now I am afraid.
