| Well I was told different but if it's only for this year , why not just stay at Cas from his point of view . Ok we need a full back / stand of when we lose Russell but why come for 10 or so games . Think he"ll play stand of and leave Horne at full back this season .

Why would he walk away from a sizeable contract with cas without good reason? Why would he bother moving clubs for 9 games when he'd been at cas for 7 years. he's signing, we all know it. The club will pretend it is for this season only but he'll be here next season.
Only other explaination is he fancies a trip over to france to stock up his shed with booze and fags

Whiting?
Plus McGoldrick can play pretty much any of the backs and in the back row. Maybe Gentle just wanting another Whiting type player to see us through the season, who can do a job at more then one position? And no, am I in no way comparing his ability to that of Whiting's.
Russell may be recalled, so he can then go FB and Horne in halves? I'm just trying to find an answer here!

Meanwhile, boss Peter Gentle confirmed he is interested in signing Castleford utility back Ryan McGoldrick.
He told BBC Radio Humberside: "I coached Ryan a long time ago back in Australia and I had a good relationship with him.
[u "It'd be a short-term deal until the end of the season and a chance for him to put himself in the shop window." [/u
Explaining his decision to leave the Tigers, McGoldrick says [u a chance to extend his stay in Super League [/uwas one he couldn't afford to miss and prompted his decision to ask to leave early.
He said: "Castleford has been a major part of my life for the last seven years and a main part of my playing career.
" [uAn opportunity has arisen which may help me continue my Super League career into the future and I have chosen to take it.[/u
Seems clear both parties accept its a short term deal, the only reason to extend it would be if he earns an extra year by playing well

| Think Goldie is deffo going to be with us as a squad player next year!
The cap is the cap and we've got to stay within it. If we sign Pea, plus another top quality prop, and a couple of Bradfords best, and an international class half back + others in the pipeline, as well as Ellis's wages, i think this means we can't fit in a quality new fullback (hence dropping interest in McDonnell at rovers).
With Horne at full back and Seymour + AN Other in at halves, we currently have no experienced cover for for either 1 or 6 at the club.
Hate or dislike him, This guy provides that cover and won't be costing the earth. Other signings will soon eclipse this one. The squad cannot be full of highly paid superstar players in every position, let alone as back up, and lets face it, there are not enough good ones to go round SL anyway, be they young or old!

His performances in a Hull shirt will not change my opinion of him since my main problem with signing him him has nothing to do with his ability or lack of it.

Well if Gentle's wanting to be reunited with some old mates then can he ask Keith Galloway and Benji Marshall if they fancy coming to us

I think Irregular is absolutely spot on with his assessment. Appears too few on here are able to see any of this logic, and too many are reacting with haste. I do have doubts that he will be here next year, but if he is, then surely it means he has earned the right to a place within a stronger squad than we have this year which cannot be bad. The reality of this remains to be seen and we will just have to wait and see how it unfolds. I have every faith in the judgement of PG, and like Irregular I feel there is lots of sense and balance in this signing - if you look for it. Its not perfect, but with a Cap based system not all signings can be. Its a balancing act. I see him as more a replacement for Tony Martin with a bit more flexiblity. Should it happen its not a key team signing, but like Martin it may be an important squad signing for all the reasons tabled by Mrs B, Irregular, et al.

| You never know it could be a deal for the rest of this season plus an option for 2013, then everyone can claim they are right! Glad he didn't come to us, but I dont reckon he is a bad a player as some think, just one of those guys you love to hate!

What the hell are we thinking?
Here's hoping it's as accurate as the usual Sun story...

| I'm not overly keen on this signing BUT....Brad Hepi was far worse than him in terms of discipline and he was idolised by the faithful. Some people need to chill out.
