| A survey a few years back of hundreds of big businesses around the country found that working conditions and been valued/respected as an employee were higher up than having a slight increase in pay. This wasn't just high paid types but a wide range of jobs & pay levels.
Given the recession at the moment that may not be as true today but motivating employees to perform better (or not drop below a level) is not easy to do. It is as much a mental thing as physical for sportsperson, if your not right mentally you can have all the ability & physical attributes required to be at the top of your sport(as well as money incentives) but you wont perform anywhere near your maximum potential.

| I totally agree with the performance related pay argument, I would be surprised if Leeds and Saints weren't on win bonuses.
Now people are probably going to disagree with me and say I'm crazy but something I have always thought would be worth looking at is fining players a small fee when they make the sort of errors that make a coach scream. Such as a penalty on the fifth tackle. You would never get it into contracts and it would have to be something the players agreed to do. The money could go into a kitty for the club charity or something along those lines.

Exactly... mind I think the players of both Hull clubs enjoy the level of support afforded to them at away games

| Quote Stan Butler="Stan Butler"It appears that a number of Hull players recieve a FLAT wage win or lose, no win bonus, no incentive.
Maybe it's me, but surely that can't be doing us any good??
Thoughts?'" professional pride.....the shirt.......and another contract should be more than enough incentive.

I'd deffo disagree with that, you cant penalise employees for mistakes that aren't deliberate & unplanned. It's impossible to guarantee any player not making a mistake at any given time in a match. Penalising them for things like that is a massive demotivator & as you said no players would want to play for the club as any contract with that in would be laughed at.
I do hope you aren't an employer

| Quote Forever FC="Forever FC"the main problem is if you give players win pay then you have to calculate that into the cap. so if each player had a £100 win bonus(just used as an example) etc then the club would have to deduct that amount off the cap by the amount of games etc. so 17 man squad x £100 = £1,700 per game x this by the extreme possibility that they win all the games (30)ish your looking at deducting about £50k off what you can spend on players.'"
if they win 30 games in a row why would you wanna spend any money on players surely that squad seems good enough

No offence but if your a player on 100k + a year - who gives a f00k about a possible £100 win bonus??? Its like offering David Beckham - £50 a goal. He earns that the first minute he plays. Maybe international recognition bonuses for non internationals and cup bonuses but not to win a league match. I don't get a 'clocking on' bonus - or a 'less than 2 dumps on overtime' bonus at my work!!!
