True,as per Phil Taylor, won everything in darts but still puts hours of practice in.

As Gary Player famously said, 'The more I practice, the luckier I become!'
Nothing wrong with practice, handling skills are the basis of our game. The better our players are with catching and carrying the ball, the more possession we'll have. It's simple really, you can't score without the ball (and neither can the opposition). If it leads to us scoring one extra try a game and at the same time stops our opponent scoring one try, that should convert 4-5 defeats a season into victories. That would make quite a difference on our league position.

Yeh I managed 45 minutes watched a lot of drills where some players really flogged them selves and then they moved to the big pitch and did some defencive drills, so cold though! The players were in great spirits though and everyone was giving it a real go!

Never ceases to amaze me at how many dormant elite RL coaches we have on this forum. Truly staggering.'"
Not defending the post by HFC Boy, because it's a ridiculous comment to make.
But, how do you know who's an RL Coach and who's not? I bet there's plenty of RL Coaches on here.
Passing and catching are fundamental's of Rugby League, I'd be getting them to play Rugby League with a tennis ball.
A lot harder to catch (with 2 hands) than a normal size Rugby ball.
Kicking a ball is not brought in nowadays until you're 12 (I think). But you go watch younger teams train or have a game, what's the first thing they want to do when they get there? Kick a ball up in the air. Do the coaches stop them? No. Why? It's a fundamental in certain aspects of Rugby League.
The team I help out coach are Under 10's, but during the sessions we get them to kick a ball. We've got calls in place ready for when we can kick.
First thing we do at a training session is ball in hand and pass down a line. Some are good passers of the ball, some are bad. But they can only get better. One of them will be a great player (whether that be professional or amateur).

| Good that we're trying different combinations in the halves with Seymour, Horne, Ellis and Nicklas. Sounds more inclusive training with regards to the younger players too.

True, there maybe many RL coaches on here, with myself included. But to question the coaching brought from the Aussi Assistant is, like you say, ridiculous comment.
To any current SL coaches on this forum, I apologise.

I seem to remember Tony Smith saying that he needed to teach Jamie Thackery how to hold the ball properly when he signed for Leeds, granted it hasn't worked out for the guy but in all fairness his ball retention was awful.
Can't argue with a pair of fresh eyes on the camp, we haven't been able to do some basics for a few years so they must be all stealing a living.
