The 'new' sports visa rules that were introduced a couple of years back stipulate that the applicant must be an 'elite' sportsman. In practical terms it means that an RL player would need to have been a regular in the NRL at least. I guess they were looking at players too young/inexperienced to qualify under this ruling.

Not really. Josh Hodgson says Green is a magician and is so gifted he can do things with a rugby ball that he's never seen before. Bet he put testiomony like that down on the application form.

That could make your eyes water, not sure how it would help on the pitch though.

And a few others besides, but those rules are in place and I guess it's easier to fake 'elite' status above a certain minimum age and/or level of experience.

it would be different for sam moa being a tongan, it's different rules for the south seas islanders, have a look at the many willie mason threads for the exact details of how that works (mind they change from minute to minute!)



As for blake green, kosh is quite right about needing to be an elite sportsman, but that doesn't quite equate to being a regular. I read somewhere there is an amount of first grade games a player needs to have played to qualify, can't remember what it is mind but green has played about 40 first grade games in oz which is more than enough.



regarding young oz players, if any without first grade experience had a parent from the EU which would make them elligible for a passport, that would probably get them in also.
