I mentioned it, but was shot down by numerous posters (Don't you worry I have the said posters comments bookmarked )

| Having been both on Knocker's and Dane O Hara's testimonial committee years ago there was always promises of player presence and to be honest it was always the same few who attended events, there was the odd event where most of them did ala Horney's first one but they soon get bored.
TBF I think a lot of them probably stayed away for fear of stirring up a hornets nest so to say, especially if some of them came across people off here who take great pride in spouting abuse at them.
Someone, I can't remember who asked why Graeme Horne wasn't in attendance for one, not sure how many pages his last thread got too but even if he isn't reading it, you can be fairly certain a member of his family will be.

That's a very fair comment. Although disappointing not to see first teamers at Rich's event last night (apart from Craig Hall) - put like that it's not suprising. We can't slate them and then expect them to turn up and socialise.

| Quote Staffs FC="Staffs FC"Couldn't agree more. Was interesting listening recently when Gary Kemble and James Leuluai were back in town and reminiscing about the 80's team. All the staff and players seemed to stick together then. I know modern day pros SHOULDN'T be on the lash all the time but socialising and being on the lash are two different things. Seems that at our club at least most players are merely contractors now and the fabric of the club means very little to most. Berro further hinted at it the other night when saying players should be playing for the bloke next to them. More reason than ever for the impending clearout.'"
Careful! I alluded to the same thing a couple of weeks ago and was accused of perpetrating the idea that a team can only bond of they're continually on the p1$$. My attitude apparently stank, too!
But I took a lot from what the Kiwis said about the team working and playing together. It just doesn't seem to happen now presumably because of the clean living necessary for the honing of Super League athletes. But I can't help thinking that all work and no play AT ALL make Hull a very dull set of individuals.
And people can't tell me that it doesn't happen occasionally at other clubs that do well. Even Morgan took the Rovers team out on the lash yesterday, according to their board. Vella is always going on about barbeques that the whole team attend and who's nicked who's tinnies. As for the NRL...
I think our current setup is a bit sterile and, yes I agree, our "team" is a collection of contracted individuals who don't have a bond with each other never mind the club and it's fans.
Just my opinion, of course [size=59(Dan FC )[/size

| TBF, they do socialise together and I don't just mean the select few who go on the lash, I mean they have always as a club made sure the players are together when they are off the pitch, i.e. barbeques etc., just because they don't publicise doesn't mean to say it doesn't happen!

| There is nothing wrong with going on the p*ss in sport. In fact, the Australian Institute of Sport actually recommend it (in moderation!) as a part of socialising with team members, which is vital to performance.
But going on the p*ss to spite your team is not good.

Agree. And getting drunk individually most nights and turning up to training pie-eyed like we all know happens with certain people is obviously detrimental and wrong. This is probably at the root of our cancer.
But socialising as a team and bonding as a group is positive if everyone's on board. I'm glad to hear from Airlie Birds Wing that this apparently happens. But our team today is a far cry in terms of passion and playing for each other than the Kiwis 80's team.
Perhaps they just don't like each other
