Depends who we've got lined up for next year now doesn't it.
 As exciting as it might seem that unfortunately a raft of players may now be available, we need players that improve us now, but also for the next 2 to 3 years. 


Second row seems sorted for us now from 2026, but we're still light for this year. Chan has been here before and I think he went there on loan? Could be an option for this year. 


Props wise, I liked Bullock in his short stint here last year, but we seem ok for props now this year, could be an option going forward though. I'd have preferred him over Watts for this year, but hindsight is a wonderful thing. Edit: Just seen Bullock will be 33 start of next season, so maybe not. 


So we're down to centres and halves. Nikorima, Lafai, McDonald and Marsters would all improve but are now all a no unless they introduce a quota exception if things go really wrong. So we're left with Atkin, Cross, Hankinson of which I think there's only Cross that would improve and offer cover across the backs, but if we have signed a left centre already, it makes it a tricky. I've been really impressed with Barron and Martin this year, and we already have Chamberlain signed up for two more years after this. 


However, if things really do go the way they're looking, the RFL will have to surely introduce some cap and quota exemption like they did with Toronto. A real mess. 

It was never officially announced but I’m sure I remember a Matt Shaw article saying that he saw with his own eyes proof that clubs would be exempt from quota restrictions for a year to take Salford players. If they’ve not met the terms and conditions to come out of special measures then I don’t see why that wouldn’t still stand. 


The obvious one in that scenario would be Lafai for a year as he’s looking to go home at the end of the year anyways. Still think Cross would be a good long term centre option for us, think we’d have a lot of competition for that. 

It’s certainly not what you can call a positive statement is it, just reaffirms what we’ve all being saying that Salford have just being using smoke and mirrors to buy time. 

It doesn’t bode well when the group of the apparent take over can’t produce the funds. 


As has been said £75k won’t go far at all and isn’t likely to cover a months wages for players and staff, even with Sneyd off the payroll. 

For Salford the situation seems to be spiralling out of control. If anything, after a brief respite when it seemed they were over the worse, they would now appear to be in an even bigger mess than they were a month ago, before the Saints debacle. It now has all the hallmarks of ending very messily and it's difficult not to feel for the Salford supporters watching their club slowly disappear down the plug hole.


For the game as a whole it is a bad image causing, as Chris says, damage to the integrity of the competition. A club who, to some degree, are one of the game's historic outfits are slowly unravelling before our eyes.


Watching all of this unfold I cannot help but think 'there, but for the grace of God, go we'. Have a feeling twelve months ago we sailed far too close to this scenario for any of us to be too comfortable. We were rescued from the brink of oblivion last year, this could so very easily have been us staring down the barrel of nowhere, I thank god (or Thirkill and Hood in this case!!) it is not ourselves going through this tortuous process of survival.

reminds me when we had been taken over by David Lloyd, ok, he put money into start, but soon turned sour and we all know what happened in the months after not putting any money in, read on social media that the new Salford owners only bought the club as they wanted to build on the land around the ground, council refused (sounds familiar), so they are with holding funds for the club....once again its the players/staff and supporters that suffer, the RFL need to take some accountability too as they ok'd the sale!
