You can record it onto a HDD, but you still need to be sat in front of the tv in that instant in order to be able to hit the red button. There is no way to program your tv to switch to a red button option if your out of the room.
Unfortunately, that is of no help to you in this situation as there is no way of accessing this stuff retrospectively.
