I don't really care how far we are behind other countries, it's Wakey first every time for me. I watch them every week, I've watched England once this year.

It's Wakey first for me but I want better for my club than 3rd/4th rate overseas players which these two are.

| Quote altofts wildcat="altofts wildcat"We are allowed 5 quota players. At the moment we have Millard, Obst, Jeffries, Morrison, Parker and Smith who all counted on the quota last year so we need 1 to leave so that we fit under the quota.
HOWEVER if a player has been at a club for 6 years then they no longer count on the quota regardless of their nationality. Obst has been with us since 2005 so i think that he will come off the quota. Jeffries has been at the club for more than 6 years in total, however thse years were split by his spell at Bradford so i am not sure wether Jeffries will count on the quota or not.
I hope this helps to explain our quota for next year.'"
So by a player coming off Quota, does that mean he becomes exempt from the overseas restrictions ala Korkidas and Henderson.

I thought that he could come off the quota but still a "trainined overseas" player.
The difference with Korki and Hendo is that they achieved their exemption before the rule came in......so were struck off the overseas register before they decded to create the non fed rule.
The rule was made tos top Jeffries doing this.....as I understand it

If a player has been at a club for 6 years then as i understand it they come completely off the quota like hendo and korky.

Fair enough, new one to me, sadly that means that Trinity (and others) can use this loop hole to the detriment of the youngsters in the academy and the ones recently signed.

Are the young players given senior contracts and a squad number there for playing ability or box ticking? If it's playing ability, there was no need for player of Leano's ability to have been brought into the country in the first place.
Or, was the academy side put together and trained to win a Grand Final and reflective glory on coaches or develop first grade players?

Of course.
This year will be the second year for most of them in the 20's. I think you will find that this is the level from which players generally start to appear in the first team. Some have had a little bit of experience, which is a bonus, but all of them now face their biggest challenge as, at the end of the season, most of them will need to have proved themselves as capable of making the grade, otherwise they will be looking at National League contracts.
I fully accept that we need to have less antipodeans within our squad, but until we can afford / attract / develop better quality English players, then we would be foolish to try and make do without them. The budget we have sets the bar in terms of what we can afford and, with a limited pool of English talent available, we struggle to match their wage demands - e.g. Ollie Wilkes and his superb offer to play for Quins for 2 years, I'm sure we would like to have kept him in other circumstances.

Fully understand what you are saying Phil, but would a 1st team of say:
Blaymire, Penny, Murphy, Millard, Morton/George, Wildie, Obst, Korkidas, Rinaldi, King, Ferguson, Mariano, Morrison.
Lee/Davey, Gledhill, Moore, Johnson
Be that much worse than;
Tony, Penny, Millard, Parker, Morton/George, Jeffries, Obst, Korkidas, Smith, King, Henderson, Ferguson, Morrison
Rinaldi, Gledhill, Moore, Johnson.
I’m not so sure.

Well I knew you would reply!
That doesn't really answer this issue though - that is more about how the likes of Wildie / Gibson / Annekin / Morton etc get to become regulars - and most of them are just not ready yet.
I am more excited generally with Mariano / Vievers / Howarth etc than I am with Tony etc, but I realise why we need to surround the young ones with some older heads - albeit we can't afford the Brits.
I think we are moving in the right direction - even if finance is one of the main reasonings behind it!

| We do need some experainced players who have been there and done it to guide the young ones and be there as an example. This is what players like Morrison and Tony will do and in tunrn make our promising youngsters better players.

Its probably easier to ask who you wouldn't swap BJ for (when he doesn't have a dominant SH to play with he is decidely average)
