| Quote bren2k="bren2k"And, from a Leeds perspective, describes about 75% of this season, so it's both historically relevant whilst retaining a sense of modernity; a bit like a Hepworth sculpture, which you can see at the world famous Hepworth museum, if you care to leave the cultural wasteland you call home and visit your cosmpolitan neighbour.'"
Everytime I read one of your posts Bren, a mental picture of that Shameless character Frank Gallagher pops into my head!
Congrats indeed on getting the Hepworth museum, although not [url=http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/art/art-reviews/8531405/Hepworth-Wakefield-a-brutal-setting-for-Barbara.htmleverybody[/url is a fan.
For £35 million you could have got a nice modern rugby stadium..... and I suspect your average Wakey punter would have preferred that.
A cultural wasteland? I think we've had exhibitions here at the Henry Moore Institute in Leeds for years! And I much prefer his [url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/billyinleeds/3947737270/work[/url

What's Henry Moore got to do with Leeds, he's a Wakefield lad from the Town of Castleford?

As with your theft of Henry Moore youve also attempted to steal Yorks title, indeed Wakefield has more of a historical claim to that title than Leeds.
I know culture is almost impossible to find in the Chav capital of Europe but that's no excuse for your delusional claim.

I guess the fact that I've never seen an episode of Shameless and have no idea who this Frank Gallagher is, amply illustrates the differences between you and I, in that our cultural references are poles apart.
As for the rest of your foolishness - what The Clan said.

I'm not a regular, but when I do watch it I really enjoy it - the bit with Franks twin brother in the Police cell was probably the funniest thing I've seen in years. I think people have some preconceptions about the show, mainly that it celebrates being a Chav - it doesn't. It's like Fools and Horses but in the real world and moder times with the sentimentality completely removed.
That said I can't for one second work out how Bren and Frank Gallagher appear in anyway similar - truly bizarre even for Billy no mates.

I watched the first 3 series and enjoyed it.

That is setting the bar unreasonably high though - Partridge is a genuine work of genius; I can't see anything matching it, in the same way I can't see TV drama getting any better than The Wire.

| I would have maybe considered Partridge as the best if they never made the last series but he took it too far, just not good enough. I would put fawlty Towers above everything else with the office, royle family, Phoenix nights and shameless closely following that leading pack with a special mention for yes minister and the new statesman.

Saxondale - not on a par with Partridge, but his best work since.
Catterick was a bit too deliberately weird for me - trying too hard.

Personally felt the last series was the best which is unusual I know. Thought he matured into his final and most gruesome incarnation to be honest.
The Royal Family now seems dreadful to me but loved it at the time. Black Adder for me was the best ever. Mentions for Fools and Horses and Red Dwarf and Frasier (who Bren does remind me off .)

Red Dwarf yes, but fools became more than just a comedy - more like a comedy soap opera. Yes the later ones lacked the magic mainly due to an ageing cast yet in a way that's what made it unique. I know the theory that Fawlty Towers was genius because it only ran for 12 episodes and in it's case that's true. That does not mean fools is devalued because it had a very long run, the product was still good IMHO.
If you want a series that over ran it's welcome by about two decades then last of the summer wine is the real stinker.

How that has stayed on the screens I have no idea. Fools was funny until the episode where they got rich, should have made that the last one. Also got to mention inbetweeners, classic.

| I love the way how a topic about Agar being appointed has turned into a debate about Sitcoms. However I will put my own views on Sitcoms out there. Only Fools is the best of what I would call the old guard but I agree with the people who say that "Time on Our Hands" (The one where they got rich) should have been the last ever one and they shouldn't have done anymore specials.
I would say that Red Dwarf, The New Statesman were very good 90's sitcoms but Drop The Dead Donkey is the best Sitcom of the 90'S.
As for the modern era I would say that The Inbetweeners is pure genius.
