They did that with me a few yeas back. I got a letter saying they were missing some information and could I forward my wage slips on. I did that (reluctantly) and got over a grand back!
Out of interest, was that the email address (did that pop up if you clicked 'reply') or was it the name that showed up in your inbox as having sent you an email?

That was the name that was shown to have sent me the email, which makes you think it was genuine...
