Awful competition so far, few goals and most games dull midfield battles, even the best game so far, yesterday's Argie/Nigeria game was nothing special.

It's all been a bit cagey so far, but then again it usually is at the start as it is seen as imperative not to lose your first game.

Going back to England, I thought they rarely strung a few passes together and if they can't learn to keep possession they won't go far. I also thought second half especially they went back to the darkest days of English football - long ball to the "target-man" and did it badly. If they can't offer more creativity than that they'll struggle to get out of the so-called easy group.

I was expecting a bit more from Serbia, but I'd forgotten that Ghana had quite a few decent players and they've definitely had more general threat, although the Serbs have had a couple of decent chances.

You're right about the number of good players in the Ghana set-up. Read one particular world cup blog last week which reasoned that Essien [iwas[/i Ghana, therefore they had no chance without him. Ahh, experts.

Teams seem to be happy with a draw 1st game, but can't really judge the competition as a whole until we have seen the big guns in Spain,Brazil,Germany,Italy & Holland.
