I think at club level he looks as good a striker in that mould as England have, along with Defoe as you say. Defoe, however, has scored 6 in 32 for England (to put into context, that's less goals in more games than Peter Crouch). Now I'm a fan of Defoe, don't get me wrong, I just feel that it's only fair to give Agbonlahor a run of games to see if he can transfer his ability to the international game more succesfully.

Spain have everything, Llorente was the only type of player I felt they've missed, but now he's broke into the national side, they look sorted.

Upson got himself in a shocking position there.

I don't think England have been too bad tonight, but Spain are clearly a cut above.



To compete with opposition like this England desperately need a fit Owen Hargreaves, to snap at their heels and deny them time on the ball, and players like Rooney and Joe Cole available and on form to provide some creativity, but more than we need more of a football brain as a whole - and with it the ability to play sensible football and have a bit of patience.

Yeh that's fair enough mate, let's not forget though that there is the old 'argument' about the quality of teams that Crouch has scored goals against.



People slate him, and he isnt the player that he used to be, but there is no way on earth that Michael Owen, when fit, shouldnt be part of the squad. He is a better option than Crouch, Cole and in my opinion, Agbonlahor.

Defoe has also played against some weak opposition for England though IIRC, he's just struggled to make the step up, which is very disappointing.



I strongly disagree with the second point. He's well past his best, too injury prone and unreliable to stay available which ruins consistency, and nearing the end of his career so I see no point in persevering with him instead of helping younger potential make the grade.

If I had the choice between the career of Bobby Moore or the career of David Beckham, I'd choose Beckham's career.



Of course Moore was the World Cup winning captain and he has mythic status because of that, but Beckham has 7 League titles and a Champions League win.
