Well he's mistaken then.
Saints did it one Good Friday years back, they filled the North, had most of a large block in the East near the screen and then a few hundred more in the West.
Wire nowhere near that. Although they do bring good support and one year almost filled the North.

What do you mean by ‘on par with’? Historically and Geographically Saints may be your biggest rivals, and therefore the games against them may evoke a more passionate response amongst some of your fans. But you would struggle to argue that this season, the games against Saints will be bigger games than those against The Wolfs
It may mean more to you for egotistical reasons to beat saints, but in the context of Super League this is the biggest game of the season so far.

I'm old enough to remember, and that's my point. Even since super league Wigan v Saints has always been the bigger game, but it’s not anymore. It may still mean more to you, due to memories of prior encounters. But in the context of this season, and last, this is the biggest game.
It’s like trying to say that United v Liverpool is a bigger game than United v City. It plainly isn’t however much you may wish it to be, and for whatever reason. One of those teams is crap and won’t be in the mix at the end of the season regardless of their history.

I'd say that two semi finals were bigger than a game to see who wins a dinner plate.

I’d agree with you completely. But they were cup games and a repeat is, at the moment, a long way off. I hope it comes, as I enjoyed both (even the last one).
Can’t wait for tomorrow night, the atmosphere will be amazing. Both team have been inconsistent and disappointing at times so far this season, who will turn up on the night?

| 1. Cup competition
2. League
Different things is all.
A semi-final will always be massive regardless of who it’s against. Tomorrow is a league game and as that is what this thread is about, it’s the biggest game of the season so far. In the wider context were we to make it to the big one then obviously that would eclipse all that had gone before, even if it were against a poor HKR side that had finished eighth. But tomorrow’s game is just a regular round game, and as round games go they don’t come any bigger.
Mind made up.

| Oh right, so now a Wolf is deciding who we think is our biggest rival... The only reason we will be "up" for this game as fans, is because we get sick and tired of Wolfs thinking they have somehow superceded someone in a clique they are not a member of. And, because at this moment you have a good competative team, for a change. Keep it up for another 25-30 years, and you still won't be our biggest rivals.
Its Saints, and will always be Saints. Sorry if you don't like it, buts its how it is.

| I disagree, IMO I see Warrington as the biggest game of the season now, I dislike Saints and its a huge game but I feel there is a mutual respect with Saints, Wire on the other hand seems to be more passionate these days, hate is a big word, there but there seems to be a hatred between the clubs that has developed over the last few seasons, Id rather lose to Saints than Wire. Just my opinion.

| I've had a bit of a giggle at these last few exchanges.
Back around 2005, we had Wire fans telling us that Warrington were now Saints' biggest rival and that we no longer counted.
That was no more true than it is that Wire are Wigan's biggest rivals now. Wigan v Wire clashes have had an epic aura of late, but as others have said, that is down to Wire having a very strong team, but also Saints being uncharacteristically weak (just as it was down to Wigan being uncharacteristically weak back in 2005). Saints are Wigan's biggest rivals because of the very, very long history. It's also because rivalry is not just about disliking someone intensely. It's about having an enemy you've clashed with so often that you've developed a grudging respect for them, and I don't think that has happened between Wigan and Wire yet, nor will it ever. With Wigan and Saints, bar a few fundamentalists on either side, it is there.
What Wire need is for Widnes to rediscover themselves, then they will have a derby they can call their own again.

I fully agree with this. Saints is the game that as a Wigan fan is drummed into you from day one. It's the first game I look for and always will be.
The recent Wire games have been far better than they were and I'm looking forward to tonight, but it still isn't a patch on a good old Good Friday derby the nerves for which will kick in as soon as the hooter goes at Salford.
