| there were a couple of familiar (not signings as yet) faces at training, asd for Jimmy Taylor it just goes to show that some of our so-called fans haven't a bloody clue, his name is always first on the team sheet his workrate is fantastic and I know Basil rates him highly mfor that and i'll take his view than a never was/will be.

look at the team when he isnt on the pitch & look again when he is and you will see a massive difference on how the team is defending and how many yards the oppositon are making. Yes, his tackling is his speciality but he is a work horse and every team needs a jimmy t!!

He plays to his strengths - and you tell me a better 'tackle machine' in this league??
All teams need their selfless workhorses - those who don't get noticed during a game when they are on the field, but sure as hell get missed when they are off it!!
Jimmy T doesn't get in the team 'cos he's a Leyther - he gets in the team on merit....'cos he plays his heart out in every game!!
He plays his heart out 'cos he's a Leyther, and the shirt means something to him!!

| How anyone can criticise JT is beyond me. Consistently one of the stand outs in our team. Yeah he doesn't add more attacking, but he more than makes up for the defensive frailties of others in the team. JT and Hilly have been the heart of our team for years and I for one hope that continues for a good while.

| anyone remember Ian Potter back int 80's ? Great Britain international Leyth Wigan Warrington i think .. he had no pace no go forward but his work ethic was second to none would tackle anything that moved ..first on team sheet for every club he played for , i rate JT in same mold every team needs that type of player ask most coaches i think they would agree

| Pity his attacking game is limited, but a bigger pity that the rest of them can't defend like JT!

| JT is a tackling machine and one of the very best. We`re a far better side with JT in than out IMO.

Must admit wasn't a fan of Ians, seemed to labour around the field (then again big tackles probably wern't as noticable then as they happened so frequently without all the high fives / back slapping etc).
JT seems more adaptable and definatly puts in the hits.
In terms of signings I'm sure Ian will have a few thoughts yet before this team is complete.

I remember when we signed him from Wire for a world record fee of £50k for a forward. He was a good player who played for GB a number of times, so can`t have been too bad.

Wasn't he a ex GB forward when we got him though ?
Not doubting how good he was for W$gan etc , just didn't impress for Leigh IMO (when you consider he was a big name player).
Didn't we sign another GB player in David Stephenson from Leeds around the same time /era......... l
Its actually only when you look back that even though we didn't have a class team how enjoyable RL was back then with all clubs having players with skill who could turn a game.
IMO one of the biggest failures since the games got rich on Murdochs Millions with more full time professionals than in its entire history is the lack of game breakers with a bit of pure skill.

| Ian potter was a class act.A key man in his first stint with us.
I remember Woody telling me how quick he was
Didnt we resign him with Brian Case after both had been integral to the pies success

| You could put Ray Tabern in the same class as Ian Potter and JT, all grafters whos hard work is soon forgotten. My theory why JTs attacking game isn't as good as his deffence is because he hurts the opposition when he hits them and they want to do the same to him so they make the extra effort to get to him. I would have JT in my team and we will be a poorer team without him.

100% agree with that. Only thing I would add is that this season I think Goulden has also become part of the 'heart' of our team. If Taylor, Hill and Goulden could play 80 minutes we would be unstoppable in this league.

| Quote stretton="stretton" just look at jimmy t he has made a living at Leigh for being a local lad lacks ability ball in hand, strength and pace but has a good tackle on him now and again.'"
JT has made a living out of being one of our most consistent and reliable players in recent years.
Quote stretton="stretton"so everyone agrees all jimmy can do it tackle! fantastic,'"
He can’t do everything, often making three or four tackles in every set, gives our more attacking minded players a rest, and when we’ve ball in hand its his turn for a break.
Quote stretton="stretton"hes had the same weaknesses since 2005! he hasnt improved much if any since then.'"
When JT first started to play, I raised a thread on here about his ‘suicide’ tackling technique, as he would often not only hurt his opponent but knock himself out, he’s improved his technique and now spends very little time sat in the stands.
Stretton we're all entitled to our opinion but I'm just glad you aren't Basil.
