Welcome to the NEW RLFANS.COM. After twenty-five years of service, the old site expired over the last few days. To maintain service we have had no option but to make an early switch to the new site which was in development/testing. Some elements of the new site are unfinished, such as; page numbering and quotations. We will fix these minor issues as soon as we can, please bear with us. | Sorry if this point has already been made, but the cost of fuel etc. to attend away games for most away supporter's is a concern and factor for not supporting teams away from home. Not so much for home fans as they don't have to travel far unless like me you have moved away from the area your team plays in. I don't mind if a club can entice a couple of hundred more away fans by off-setting the travel costs a bit by reducing the entrance fee then surely this has to be a good thing for everyone. It's a better atmosphere in the ground with a few more away fans and I also think away fans will be more inclined to by a half time draw ticket, pint, burger or programme if the clubs have reduced there entry prices. All clubs are struggling to attract fans in this division and they all need to try different things to get more bums on seats.
I live near Llangollen in Wales and still manage to get to the majority of home games at the Mount, despite the 200 mile round trip. Because of the costs involved in travelling and evening kick off's, I don't get to every home game, so a season ticket is not worth it for me as I probably miss 3 or so games a season making a season ticket more expensive than paying on the door.
I would not feel upset seeing opposing fans with a season ticket saving a fiver on the entrance fee over me though, despite probably travelling further than them too. The 'Dog's are my club, always have been and always will be, I feel it is kind of my responsibility to support them, to ensure I do my bit to help ensure they survive.
Yes, it would be far easier and cheaper supporting Wigan, Saints, Warrington, Leigh, Widnes or god forbid North Wales Crusaders or whatever they are called this time!!!! or any of the other clubs I pass on my way to Batley, but it just isn't the same watching anyone else. I've been to Saint's and Wigan with mates a few times as they support them, I can't deny the class and football played is far superior to that played at the Mount, but it's impossible to have the same feelings or to get as excited watching anyone else it just doesn't mean anything watching anyone else.
I can't imagine not having the 'Dog's to watch, imagine not having Leigh Centurions and never being able to take your kids or grand-kids to enjoy the experiences or feelings of elation after a hard fought win you have enjoyed over the years.
Come on, get behind the club they need you; we all need you, the league would not be the same not having Leigh to visit, (it's the closest thing I get to a home game this season!!!)

| Quote ste_ody="ste_ody"Same here, not too fussed on the figures but what would your ideas be and how would you persuade/drag them in?
I think we should look at targeting the 5-16 year olds. Its about getting them in the LSV and making them fans.
They have to 1st of all enjoy the day, so would you have a fun day kind of thing? Because the free kids that rfl ran last year was quite a good incentive'"
Ste, reread the post that was highlighted on the Sheffield idea yesterday the one on the VT, essentially they will look at who took up the deal, and target those groups next time
Now this information is happily shared between clubs marketing and community depts , so instead of clubs directors guessing at these things , all they have to do is ask, ask the experts what works and what doesn't
No disrespect but if you need a solicitor, you need them for a reason, it isn't an impulse decision, you dont think out of the blue " the weathers nice today and theres nothing on the telly I'll ring a solicitor," ditto cardboard boxes , you either need them for a reason or you dont, can you see where I'm going here? , maybe a policeman? , I doubt many people have ever thought, I've not spoken to the police for a while, I'll nip down the station
So decide what you want, tell the experts what you want, ask them what they need from you to achieve what you want, give it to them and let them get on with their job
It really is that simple

| I did see the sheff post and it is a good idea, providing you take down the info of everybody that has come to watch.
Would you target a specific game?

Ideally ste, we'd like to get that sort of info. on everybody who comes to watch, from a communications perspective. We've already got it on S/T holders and Touchdown members, (I hope!) and would probably wish to 'attack' supporters as they queue for tickets at one of our 'bigger' games. (in adition to any where an initiative such as Starbug's would be attempted)

| Quote Starbug="Starbug"It all comes down to the providing of free adult tickets, to get the kids into the stadium the community dept needs to have them available if needed, all clubs , including ours dont like giving them out
It really comes down to a leap of faith by the club, they are scared that they will be abused and used by existing fans, I however believe that with a bit of common sense you could reduce the misuse of tickets to close to zero
So why the management seem reluctant to even try is a complete mystery to me'"
I don't pretend to know what the answer is. It's early days yet, but the signs are not good, especially as we have not got the visit of Widnes to boost our gates. (and the team's confidence!) Times are hard but, this week, the 'trade press' announced the Sheffield initiative and Featherstone having sold 1,000 season tickets - so some initiatives seem to work.

| Quote Starbug="Starbug"I'd like to apologise to Alan over this part of my post, it was uncalled for and not fair on somebody that is doing some great work for the club'"
There really wasn't a need to 'go public' with that Steve. Your 'pm' was more than enough. Anyway, it takes a big man.............. an all that!
Cheers,
Alan
