| Saints will have the best first choice pack IMO, with Wigan the most depth. Saints' front row is certainly the strongest with Graham/Perry/Roby starting and TP/LMS/Moore coming off the bench.
Graham
Roby
Perry
Wilkin
Soliola
Flannery
Puletua
LMS
Clough
Moore
I expect big things from Magennis if he can stay fit too.
Rogues, I'm not sure how you can argue Saints' props aren't stronger than last season - yes we released 4 but one wasn't even being considered for selection when fit (Fozzard) and one was a shadow of his former self, barely playing through injuries (Mauire).
Best 5 props:
2010 - Graham/Hargreaves/Emmitt/TP/Clough
2011 - Graham/Perry/LMS/TP/Clough
No comparison.

But you are effectively naming two players in Clough and Puletua as props when they played the majority of their games in the back row last season.

Paul Clough played most of his games in 2010 off the bench as a prop and is no longer a back rower.
We've swapped Hargreaves and Emmitt (two plodders) for Perry and LMS (two internationals), got rid of Fozzard who couldn't get a game and Maurie whose body was falling apart and turned Clough into a top quality prop (check out his stats against, say, Andy Coley who had a big season for Wigan in 2010).
Saints are far stronger in the pack for 2011; finally Graham will have some genuine quality support in the front row.

One of those at least? One at most you mean surely, Shenton has one spot nailed down. If Wheeler is fit he'll pay centre IMO - he played there when fit in 2010 and did a great job.

Soliola was bought as a centre (poor decision IMO) Wheeler has been unable to string more than five consecutive games together for four years.
Perry is already missing for the first 4 / 5 games of the season.
A fully fit Saints starting 17 will be a difficult game for anyone, but after that there is a big lack of strength in depth.

Completely forgot about Shenton tbh. And I know if Wheeler is fit he'll play centre, but how often is he fit?

Outside that we have Lomax/Foster/Armstrong/Gaskell as cover in the backs with 50 SL appearances and 23 tries between them.
In the forwards we have Ashurst/Dixon/Magennis/Frodsham with 89 SL appearances between them.
We had awful luck with injuries last year and the squad was strong enough to finish 2nd and reach the GF; in my opinion we have strengthened for 2011. Yes, we don't have as much depth as Wigan - but you can only play 17 players.
Had the situation been reversed in the GF and Wigan had Tomkins and TL injured (and Saints with Pryce and Eastmond fit) it wouldn't have mattered how many back rowers Wigan had in their squad.

| I thought that there were six in a pack.
But you can't just do that, you have to consider at least nine (3 subs) and in many cases ten (four subs).

How can you say that with Pryce in your squad, he's only good for a 10m out barge over try to the corner, biggest donkey i've seen for years and is it you that is one of his biggest defenders ?

He's got a squad number 26 and managed 13 tries from 9 games last season.
You get four points for no matter where you score from, Saints for example scored more tries from within 10 metres of the line than any other team in Superleague last season.

I'm voting that as Rogues favorite stat from 2010. He just needed to follow it up with "Saints the entertainers"

Has he balls. Keiron Cunningham would be Saints best player even if he didn't touch the ball or make a tackle in a game. His mere presence on the field made the 12 others perform better. The last couple of seasons Saints have shown we can look almost unbeatable with him on the field and absolutely shocking with him off it.
Coping without him is Saints major challenge next season.
On the positive side, having a second proper prop forward could make James Graham even better. If Perry and LMS can stay fit it could mean he gets rotated like a normal prop would.

| I find it bizarre that everybody is suddenly talking up Saints pack on the basis of signing Perry and LMS and losing Cunningham. Yes they will be putting a strong pack on the field but no stronger than they have had in recent seasons. But it seems like this year its been very 'in vogue' to be talking up Saints as having a monster pack for some reason - its not as strong as it was a few years ago when they had Cayless, Fozzard and Faasavalu at their peak and a young Graham as the fourth prop, with Cunningham there still, now that was a good pack. Josh Perry is decent but again is he as good as Saints Aussie props of the past like Fairleigh and Britt....time will tell.
When Daniel Anderson was Saints coach then they were comfortably the strongest team in SL, now they aren't, they are one of a group of teams who will be competing for trophies, the others being Wigan, us and Leeds. I would not be surprised if they have a bit of a testing season, with a few surprise losses to lower ranked teams and pressure on Royce Simmons at some point in the year, only for them then to come through and be there or thereabouts when it comes to Wembley or Old Trafford.

What utter nonsense. Roby was Saints' player of the year and players' player of the year in 2010 and deservedly so. He was miles better than Cunningham over the year - don't let a couple of emotional barge-over tries at the end of the season warp your perspective. Roby comprehensively outplayed KC in the GF too; KC was invisible.

I'm more interested in the effect signing LMS/Perry will have on our back rowers - with a bit more grunt up front, I expect TP and Wilkin will be far more dangerous in attack in 2011.

| I've thought Roby's been a much, much better played then KC for a few years as well. Just whenever Roby's been on the field (at Hooker) has usually coincided with prop rotation where Saints haven't really had decent 3rd/4th props for a couple of years.
