I liked Sandow but not a patch on what Field has produced for Wigan this year.

JF can step off each foot to create a gap but with legs like Ashton.
Have we stifled Ashton by not playing at fullback? I think we have, but Thewlis is ripe for it.

Put Field in the Salford team, and they would have won that game.

How much weaker can it get? If you take Field and French out they are worse than Leeds. There is no one in their team worth resting other than those two.

| Who knows but I'm not convinced Wigan will rest many against Wire.
Deep down they must feel unlikely to beat Saints whoever plays for them.

While St Helens are quite rightly the favourite to win the Challenge Cup Semi Final game versus Wigan, it is a one off game, and in cup ties, form/class doesn`t always guarantee a victory.
I would be more magnanimous in your posts, they could bite you, if you lose that game.

Exactly. Upsets happen.
Saints Team: Jack Welsby, Josh Simm, Konrad Hurrell, Mark Percival, Tommy Makinson, Jonny Lomax, Lewis Dodd, Matty Lees, Joey Lussick, Agnatius Paasi, Curtis Sironen, Morgan Knowles. Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook.

I think Wrench has got similar footwork to Field, thinking back to him putting Ashton away against Leeds. He’s actually very quick, certainly over the first 30 metres.

I agree in a straight foot race, but the thing with Field and French that Ashton might want to look at (don't recall this in his armoury), but that's pace with movement.
I'm not at all bagging the lad, I really like him in the team, but I was convinced that Ashton could have gone for the corner first half but cut inside, when we scored off the back of the pen. Field seems to stand the defender up creates the gap before hitting the gas,. French for a couple of weeks running, has had the defender in his sights back peddling in every direction I was dizzy just watching.
Although I concede that doing it on the wing with only the touchline for company might make a difference.

Agreed, its that pace off the mark that is so important in rugby league, and the ability to change direction without dropping speed. Be interesting to see who would win a foot race over 100m, my money would be on French & Field over 30m though.
Wrench looked very quick going for the corner on Saturday.

I was disappointed he didn't back himself and go for the corner, mind maybe he was conscious of how bad that wind was. I've no doubt he would have made it.

| Bevan French's best position (by a mile) is full back. He is not getting the opportunities he craves playing out on the wing. Neither Field or French are best suited to half-back either. Hardaker's best position is FB too.

I've not said they can't or won't? It's a cup semi final and a derby and all it takes is a couple of tries from kicks, a Field/French runaway or two or a red card and they'll win. I'm not one of those posters that claim Saints are unbeatable, never have been.
Outside of Field and French, their squad is about all the same level. If they rest Bibby are you going to notice? If they rest Partington, Smithies, Byrne, Thornley, Shorrocks, Ellis, Singleton, Isa, Mago etc etc is anyone going to notice? The kids/squad players they would bring in will be at the same level anyway and nothing to worry about. I don't see Wigan resting anyone against you. They have the backup of Field and French, so it's less risky than if they just had one of them. If they get a few scores up (or down) they might sub a couple early though.

French & Field do look a class above anything that Wigan (or most teams in SL) posses on the playing front. However, if I was Peet, I would want to put my best team on the pitch for the semi final. We might see this happen, regardless of our opinion of their overall squad. With Hull keeping Catalans two points behind them, Wigan look to be able to sacrifice two league points to us and still be favourites for that second spot at the end of the season. From our point of view, we cannot run out on Friday believing that because there's no Field or French that our job is done. I'm sure that DP or Woolf would think the same in such circumstances.

Good God! You post some crap! At least you're consistent. Would we miss Farrell? Yes...and so would any team he played for including yours. Do we miss Leuluai? Absolutely we do. Did we miss Marshall while he was out recently? Without a shadow of a doubt. Ellis the same. Who are these young players that we could bring in that would seamlessly cover for Cust, Bateman or Havard? That's on top of French and Field as you have already admitted to. I could go on but I already feel like I've wasted enough time on your drivel.

I don't agree, why do you feel the need to throw the insults about like that? Marshall is bang average, I didn't even know he was missing. Miski doesn't offer anything less, nor does Bibby if you play him on the wing, he looks 40 just like Marshall. Halsall covers your centres and wingers and there's no significant drop if he plays over any of them is there. Farrell is a very solid player, I respect him, but your forwards are the same, they all tackle well and they all offer pretty little with the ball. I'll give you Farrell though, rest him with Field, even though I didn't list him to start with.
Bateman has been average, he's not an elite level player any more. Any of your young forwards cover for him. Smith covers for Cust easily (Both very slow, limited halfbacks) and you're Wigan. You're not telling me you're academy halfback is far behind Cust? I don't believe you if you do say that.
Havard is Bulgaria's best ever player, but he's only 21 himself. Byrne, Partington, Mago and Ellis as a four would be fine. Havard is probably the pick of those five (As he's 21 with a much higher potential), but it's close between all of them.
But be honest, you've taken the entirety of my post as a criticism haven't you? It's not (entirely) as your senior academy will be full of players at Super League level. So I stand by my point, outside of Field and French (And I'll give you Farrell) there isn't anyone Wigan need to wrap in cotton wool and worry about.

No mate, I've taken your post as the ill informed crap it is. This latest post just proves it further. Let's start at the top.
Marshall is our best winger. Comfortably. So much so he's just been included in the current England squad.
Halsall covers one centre, not both. He's good but he's not that good. It's an either/or.
Farrell offers nothing with the ball? Arguably the best line runner in Superleague offers nothing? I'll just laugh at that one. It's all it deserves.
Bateman had a poor season last year but has been good this. You could claim that we wouldn't miss his 100+ metres per game of course as I could claim you wouldn't miss Walmsley's 100+ per game too. Both statements would be utter crap. Thankfully only one of us is dumb enough to make such a statement.
Smith covers for Cust? Smith is already playing! Mind you having one player cover 2 positions seems to be a theme of this drivel. I'll just laugh again. It saves time.
Havard is our biggest metre maker in the front row. Of course we wouldn't miss him. I'm sure you wouldn't miss yours either. You're an idiot. Partington isn't as good and Mago is a short minutes player so no, those 4 wouldn't be "fine".
As for throwing insults, I rarely feel the need. I'm happy to make an exception for a complete fool who actually seems to believe the nonsense he posts. You follow Wigan around to all our opponents forums to post this garbage. If you are upset by being called out try giving it a rest. I know you won't though as your clearly obsessed.

As an aside, I think Farrell is the most underrated player in SL. Always a huge thorn in our side. Great player.
