Did anybody see Makinson when Hurrell scored? Looks like someone had told him his dog died. Something not right there. Expect him to be playing somewhere else next year.

| Well, we posed this tie as a true test of where we were, especially considering the injuries to our big forwards.
Presumably we now have the answer.

This isn't even a debate. Ashton is better than Hicks was
Ashton is a lot faster
Ashton makes more yards running it in.
Hicks was better in the air
Hicks was possibly marginally better in defence.
Ashton's finishing is better.
Overall, I can't see why people still go on about Hicks. How many would Hicks score over the last few years for us playing outside the centres that Ashton has had to. T King and Ratchford versus M King and Bridge. This isn't even taking into account how dominant our pack was while Hicks was here. So we we got downfield a lot easier and created more opportunities for our outside backs as a result.

| I'm just about to watch the game back view at the game was that we were a better team from 1 to 17.
Whilst not getting carried away,we did a big job on saints today, we were told we hadn't played anyone yet, and I thought we were treated very harshly over the 2 catalans defeats.
You cant say saints had an off day today, we rinsed them out wide.
Ironically you could say that was a daryl powell-esque attacking display out wide

| Lots to love about that display but for now I will highlight one big and one “small” points.
The biggie was to pass to second receiver from dummy half which nullified the Saints “speed” off the mark. The second was the move between Powell and Harrison for the try. I still can’t work out what they did!

| Can't wait to watch this back but what a game.
The moments that stick for me how slick the movement between Williams, Dufty and Hayes, really clicked in attack.
Dufty jumping for ball (yes he missed one) but really took away St Helens one dimensional Dodd kicking attack,
Fitzgibbon loving his work loving the devil in him and the lines he runs.
Jimmy Harrison immense.
George Williams ran the show, game management was great drop goal to go in ahead was a great move.
Thought Saints try was offside but let them have that.
1-17 all did their jobs and loving the next man up mentality
Also I've never seen a Saints side full of so many basic errors, kicks out of the full, Lomax dead ball, but we pressured them and made them make the mistakes.
We need to not underestimate Huddersfield who did a number on Catalans but I'm sure Sam will get them in the right frame of mind.
Buzzing.

| Question for the geeks…Ashton “no try” given as a knock on but even if it hit his hand it then went to his lower leg so isn’t that a kick?

A very 'pernickety' no try, had it gone up as 'try' I don't think it was clear enough to deny. He even visibly seemed to pull his right hand away from his leg and the ball, whether thats because he sensed he'd touched it who knows. He said in his interview he thought he did. But it was as either/or as that weird one we had chalked off in the 2019 final where fatty Lineham brushed against Goodwin. Marginal stuff.

| Congratulations from a Leeds fan.
Only managed to watch the second half and have commented on our board that you can already see the Burgess effect making a depleted pack look very good with fire in their bellies.
Ashton has to be the best all round winger in SL at the moment and Williams controlling the game once again.
I was gutted when we missed out on Fitzgibbon as he was just the player we needed.
Have to say I don`t rate Dodd and even Welsby and Lomax looked very ordinary as you put them both under pressure.

| Big, big win and a great performance.
Burgess has auprised me. In know time at all he’s built a great team spirit and a team that plays some very attractive rugby. The players appear to love him.
Whilst I’ve been critical of our recruitment in the past the club should be applauded for signing these two from the Championship. A fantastic bit of business:
James Harrison was quality as always. Such a consistent, solid performer. 7/8 out of 10 every week.
Matty Ashton, you wouldn’t swap him for any other winger in the league - he just has everything.

| Well done Warrington.
Has as been said your players 1-17 were the better over the 80 mins.
As a Wigan fan I saw the game a bit different.
I thought it was pretty even for 60 mins but in the last 20 you kept your intensity where Saints fell off.
Your pressure forced Saints into all sorts of mistakes Welsby and Lomax the most notable.
Also they brought Walmsley on to over power your pack in the last quarter but he was very poor and was dragged off.
For so many years Saints have overpowered their opposition in the last quarter especially at their place.
Seems to me that Big Sam has brought an intensity to the squad that previously wasn't there.
We saw a different Warrington today, a team/squad that can go the full 80 mins.
Things are looking good for you guys.
Once again, well done Wire.

| Fantastic performance, one of the best all round displays I've seen from a Wire side in a long while.
Fast in attack, and magnificent in defence. Can't get over just how good Harrison is, a real find.
Here's to the semi's!

| Just finished watching this on iplayer as I was away today. Fantastic result.
A lot of good points raised here.
Williams was outstanding. World class performance.
Harrison has come of age in these last 2 games and led from the front. (I now don't fear if Vaughan is out). He was an absolute animal out there. What an engine.
Ashtons finish was incredible but he was so good at bringing the ball out of defence.
It was a close game for 60 minutes but at half time I was worried about the 2nd half simply because Saints didn't really seem to have got going yet still were neck and neck with us.
But on reflection that was because of the way WE played and how WE did not allow Saints to play.
They made uncharacteristic errors because of the pressure WE put on them and got them rattled.
I simply didn't understand the Saints game plan.
I can't remember a single high kick to our right.
Saints forwards struggled to get 'go forward'.
Lomax and Welsby were non existant for large parts of the game.
Clark only had a couple of runs from dummy half.
Was this because we successfully managed to slow their ptb down? I'm not sure.
Clearly our best performance of the season.
Great team spirit and belief. Resilliance is building.

Struck me what an influence Sam Powell is having on the rest of the pack. Calm and unfazed and his attitude seems to have rubbed off.
More of this please boys.

I was dead wrong about this guy. I always thought he was just a tackler and a bit of a spoiler, but your description is spot on.
Neither he nor Hayes do anything flashy with the ball, but you can tell both of them know exactly what their jobs are, moving the ball quickly and tidily and making space for others.
