News that a £800m offer has been put forward to the FA for the sale of Wembley Stadium.



How would this affect RL and more specifically the Challenge Cup? Apparently we have a 20 year deal with Wembley for the Challenge Cup which started in 2007.



Did the RFL pay any money towards the build of the stadium?

I suppose half the premier league is owned by Chinese millionaires and Russian oligarchs, Arabian sheiks and American wealth, nothing is out of reach for these type of investors, just hope we have a negotiating team to fight our cause should it happen.

Well even the new buyer would expect continuing trade in the deal...otherwise its a loss making shell.

After last years miserable attendance, it should be played at Cardiff. So Wembley would be no loss.

The glamour of the Challenge Cup has been devalued under the current format which is all designed for a wet & windy night in October to host a match at Old Trafford.

You can blame the Wigan "fans" for that. If it moves from Wembley just stop playing it. No way is Cardiff a viable permanent home fir an ENGLISH Cup Final.

This is true. Sky were once quite keen on Rugby League though and so this seemed fair enough (showing it on SS1/SS2) but now we are relegated to the "minor sports" section along with darts, ATP tennis, re-runs of "Sporting Greats" and WWE. The CC is completely devalued and you can get to Wembley without playing anyone decent (as we did in 2016). The traditional sunday games have all but gone and attendances are only heading one way.

Probably means the Jacksonville Jaguars will relocate to London to play at Wembley.



The Challenge Cup Final won't be in NFL season but the RFL were already looking at moving out of Wembley and if they have to pay more now it could push the decision.



In the longer term it will be interesting to compare how the NFL makes a go of an overseas-based franchise (and a London franchise!), compared to the RFL. They won't be bothered by any worries about developing English players as they don't have an international game to care about. It will purely be about establishing a market in the UK and being able to sell TV rights, advertising etc.

The CC has always been like that which is part of the fun of it, it injects a lottery element which allows fans of clubs that have no chance of winning the main event, to dream.



In 1990 we only had to beat one good team (Bradford) to get to Wembley.

I don't know why Eddie Hemings doesn't buy Wembley. He could play Wigan and saints there every week. The biased towards these two clubs is beyond a joke now with bike he comes out with when they play.

The new Wembley is awful. It's very rarely full and lacks atmosphere. In addition we have the soulless town of Wembley where the erm locals(?) have no knowledge or interest in our sport and just see us as an annual cash cow. Id welcome a change of venue.

That Welsh, Canadian, French, Scottish, Russian and English teams play in?

We could look at the new Spurs ground or West Ham ground at Queen Elizabeth Park. These have smaller capacities (around 60k) than we usually get for a Challenge Cup final so tickets would be more at a premium (I expect they would be rationed by higher prices!). Possibly we might need to think about bringing the CC earlier in the season to make it a mid summer event as once the season has started the football teams will be less keen on getting it chewed up.

Never had the same buzz as the twin towers gave me.

See I never really ever got to see the Twin Towers so was never bothered about them. As a Wire (35 years without a major trophy and not many trips to Wembley in that time) and a City fan (35 years without a major trophy and not many trips to Wembley in that time), seeing Wire and City frequent Wembley many time from 2009-2018, the Wembley Arch is the big one for me - especially great when they light the arch up in my teams colours when we’ve won the cup!
