The Speculator: I am not a betting man - just an annual punt on the Grand National - but out of curiosity, I did take a look at Wakey's odds in the build-up to yesterday's game, purely because I was so convinced that Wakey would win. Coral were offering 9/2, which seemed very generous, and I now wish I had put a tenner on it! But anyway, what I really found interesting was that they were offering odds for combinations of try scorers, which heavily featured CTW and Alfie Johnson. It seemed obvious that the bookies had got wind of the Dufty injury and Wire's team selection before they became public knowledge. I am naive in such matters, but I guess that's just how bookies roll? Knowledge is power, and all that.
Not often you will find a poor bookie but sometimes you wonder how they come up with the odds. Start of the week we were giving Wakefield 16 on the handicap which I found really generous. Friend of mine as convinced Wakefield would win without the handicap and he did put £20 on at 9/2, sadly I did not follow him as I thought we would win but no way more than the 16.
