Quote ="ninearches"Rhinos ,Wildcats ,Wolves , all names to suit sky marketing to get their sports channels off the ground. Probably an American leaning gimmick to give sky credibility across the pond. Hate them all.'"
The Rhinos name evolved as Leeds RLFC (as they were known previously) used the Leeds coat of arms which featured three owls, a golden fleece, and a Latin motto, "Pro Rege et Lege" which translates to "For King and the Law". The owls come from the coat of arms of Sir John Saville, the first Alderman of Leeds. The fleece represents the city's wool industry.
Put simply they had no copyrights to the brand or the badge, So they took the step to become known as the "Leeds Rhinos"
