Welcome to the NEW RLFANS.COM. After twenty-five years of service, the old site expired over the last few days. To maintain service we have had no option but to make an early switch to the new site which was in development/testing. Some elements of the new site are unfinished, such as; page numbering and quotations. We will fix these minor issues as soon as we can, please bear with us. | Sibbit was a good player and even filled in and played quite well at centre a few times in the days when our squad cover was wafer thin. I recall he was in tears at the end of the play-off match at Piedome the season it had been announced he was leaving for Salford. Let's hope he finds a good job to take him forward.

Always thought he gave his all in every game but got frustrated at being played in the centres when he was a second row.
/>
We seamed to have had a tendency to do things like that around that era of the club and especially when Steve Anderson arrived .
If I remember correctly 1 game he played Briers at full back, Penny in the centres and Hulse at hooker then complained about the defence.

Sibbit probably wouldn't have got in the side as early as he did, had it not been for being put in the centres, as McCurrie and Guisset were the first choice second rowers. There was a space in the backs because we had lost Jason Roach then Forster broke his arm early in the season so Hunte went to the wing. It would have been Toa and Roper at centre, but when Sibbit got a chance early in the season, he was better than Roper.
/>
When Sibbit played centre for us he got 3 hat-tricks in his first 2 seasons, and got an NRL contract and at that time he was quite highly rated, talked of as a future international, so it was seen as a bad loss for us. I remember being pleased when Cullen brought him back for 2003.
For most of his career as a second rower he's been a steady 100%er without being a superstar so my favourite memories of his career are when he was young and at centre, he was tall and strong and a dangerous runner out wide, after he came back from Aus he was more a workhorse type player in the pack.
He always struck me as a good bloke who enjoyed playing the game and making the most of his chance to play top flight RL, and he's ended up with a good CV, when you think of the clubs he's played for, some of the biggest in the game.

He started the season for Melbourne at centre for the first 2 games of the season before Aaron Moule returned from injury and played there in his other start later in the season, but realistically he never had the pace to play be one of the best centres given his long, slow stride. DVDV knew this and made Sibbit join Warrington Athletics Club at one stage in an attempt to help him improve his sprinting.
