Fast with a wicked side-step and good kicking game by the looks of it.

Is that relevant in the era of Non-Federation?

| Watching Higgins on those Youtube clips was like watching a very young Long in action.
We all know the pitfalls of signing on the basis of video clips but if only half as good as he looks on there then we've got a gem.
Very worried there isn't at least another prop signed up, know it's not the easiest time to be picking one up but we still look desperately short up front.

| Thought the same MR.
Higgins is a natural halfback in the Long mould. British passport holder too. Under the guidance of Longy could be quite a find. Still need a few big props, but they will come eventually I'm sure.

| Whilst I'm not complaining as Higgins looks a decent player, what do the signings of him and Murphy say to Sneyd, Fages & Evalds? I've watched all 3 in the U-20's and all have stood out just like Higgins does on his highlights reel.

I know what you mean but I look at it that the club by looking at people like Higgins and Fages is looking to a massively talented squad in the not to distant (though I personally think Theo is good enough now with the right people on the pitch around him).
Sneyd seems to have to convince many people of his worth, for me he does look like a Rabbit in the headlights at times but think like Theo he would benefit from having an old head type half back partner.
I do agree with you 100% on Evalds as he looks like a bit of class, reminds me a little of Fitzy as he isn't the biggest in stature but has the heart of a Lion. Murphy I think has been brought in for a month as he has a little more (minimal mind) big match experience, I was like many expecting to hear about the Fish signing today, maybe Evalds will get his shot a little later on when things have settled down.

Very true. On a positive note it was pleasing to hear the DR at the press conference acknowledge the young players. Perhaps Graham Lowe has had a look at our youngsters on video and see's more potential than Matt Parish did?

| Higgins will be on loan as Graham Lowe will think that's the best deal for SCR. Obviously Simms has gone and Lowe with the rest of the rugby admin will do things differently and probably a lot better.
If Higgins is a success he will stay, if not then they've given him a trial and the loan is fair to both the club and the player.
Lowe will have to take who he can right now to improve the squad. Mention made at the Pressy that they are looking at recruits for 2014/1516.
With Lowe there I don't think you'll have to much to worry about over player recruitment.

Chris Borgese?
We are now in the era of Salford City Reds ( 2013 ) MKAC Investments.
Graham Lowe is a new Director of Rugby , and I reckon there will be a alot of activity in & out of the club over the season . and new ways of operating .
10 of the existing senior squad are out of contract at the end of the season , and probably only 2 or 3 tops ( Broughton being the obvious one ) will be guaranteed to be offered extended deals . how many did Veivers sign ?
Dr K , has talked about spending up to the Wage Cap next season. and we'll be a notabley bigger draw to players & player agents than in prevoius seasons.
I think the younger lads are safe , even though it looks like they are being over looked at present, look at the level of cover bigger teams have ,they have a wealth. our squad is down to the bare bones , I think it's just about getting bodies in .
This Connor Higgins has a UK passport , he'll be over here to put himself in the shop window , with the 1st team - U19's , if he doesn't make it with us , other teams will have had a look at him .

| Worked with both Liam and Vic at Manly for the last two seasons. Mainly Liam though in reserve grade (NSW Cup).
Vic is solid, small in stature for a prop, but relentless. Will try and try and keep going.
Liam is a very skilful player with a good boot and kicking game.
I hope they settle in there well.

| Think last night showed we desperately need at least another two props. I lost count of how many times we were getting dragged backwards 2 or 3 yards in the tackle, it was almost every single hit up.

out of the top RL sides Wigan are adept at this Maguire introduced wrestling tackle technique, - 3 men in the tackle , held up RU maul style enabling them to keep the tackle live , move the play back AND allow their defence to regroup.
It's not just the fact we are light in the pack , we are still relatively slow/bad at the play the ball , we must have lost possession 3 or 4 times due to penalties for incorrect play-the-ball .

| I know it's been said many times before but last night proved we are woefully short in the front row. Mauro looks like he's going to be a 70 minute a game prop who is a blocker but we need a hard yard maker and from the way the forwards failed to protect Fages last night we need one who isn't afraid of the biff.
I'm happy to give everyone all the time needed, think McGoldrick will be a valuable interchange player, think that Theo if he gets to play @ 6 outside Foran will become a genuine world beater of a player and one who in years gone by we'd have lost to a bigger team but now we can match anything the other have to entice him.
The one who I think we missed most last night was Gleeson, he might be a bit of a numpty off the pitch but he was always solid in defense and could be relied on to make gaps for his winger.
You'd hope that with the Docs money the players are taken away from the hullabaloo of the taker over and can find somewhere in France/Spain to bond and train both before and after the Les Cats game and gear towards starting the season proper with the run of games against Hull KR, London and Wakefield when the Aussies have arrived to add some nouse, skill and backbone to the team.

How do the top teams counteract Wigan doing this?Have we not been shown how to hit the floor and play the ball quickly and correctly?

| Does anyone know when the lads from Manly are due to arrive?
Would be ideal if their first game was the home tie V Hull KR and if we had Gleeson back by then and any potential other loanees or new signings that would be a winnable game with what would constitute our current best sqaud to work with.
OT I know but I keep seeing that this possibly Mozzers last year and we could do worse than go with a cheeky bid for him to add the obviously missing edge in the front row.
