If you get a ban it should be for competitive games only. But saying that him serving a ban in the NRL has zero impact on us anyway.

why not?!
i know its 'in the rules'.....but why???!!!
we now pride ourselves about the fact we use Video technology against sports like football, but have picked and chosen which offences we can look for?!
if the VR can have a word in the refs ear about a knock on, or a late challenge. why should he not be able to do the same with foul play.
it seems daft to me that these both were clearly card offences, and neither were punished during the game.
it was clear from viewing both incidents once in slow mo that both Smith and the little scrote intended to injure an England player.
both were sending off offences!
what good is a 2 game ban now?

Don't ask me! I don't make the rules.
They were clearly card defences but the referee is always right so they weren't

I'd go further: if you're banned by an international disciplinary panel for an offence in an international game, the ban should apply to international games.

Wont do much if he is not selected again though.
It should be first grade Club games and the penalties should be for longer periods.
I would not mind if Luke got 6 months, he is a Grub and a blight on the game.

| Says on Sky he can serve his ban in pre season in Oz so a complete waste of time.
Apart from the fact he didn't actually suceed I don't see any difference between what he did and hitting someone full in the face with an elbow (a la Boyd or Morley) should be a lengthy ban imho.

| I haven’t been through the whole thread but the actions of this guy in both the Aussie game and the tackle on Chase were disgusting. There have been plenty of players who are dirty but not many who set out to injure players in such a calculated and cowardly fashion
He’s a disgrace to our game, simple as that

I'm pretty sure Morley was the victim of an elbow smash to the face (from Cassidy) rather than a perpetrator, but totally agree with your argument. The severity of the punishment shouldn't be based on the outcome; Luke clearly tried to put Chase out of the game (at least) and the ineffective punishment he's received is a joke.

I wonder if any further action will be taken on account of the fact he has returned to NZ and admitted to deliberately "trying to break his leg" as Chase has chosen to play for England. A premeditated attempt to cause a serious injury to another player.
"I just saw red. A lot of the legends who played in the black and white jersey, they wanted blood. I know Rubes wanted blood. I guess that's the mentality us young ones have taken on board. We had a talk the night before about what the jersey meant and that must have come out. When you come up against your family you want to outplay them. I didn't outplay him. I tried to break his leg."

His comments seem to be spreading across the general press rather than staying with RL. First ever RL story I have seen featured when signing into my Yahoo e-mails:
uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/20112011/ ... e-leg.html
Wouldn't be surprised to see this in the nationals tomorrow morning now.

| The thought either real or imagined that a fellow countryman is in some way showing disrespect to your country is a powerful one and sadly in some cases some people get carried away on a wave of emotion.
It was a disgusting act though

Why would he try and break his own team mates leg in training?
You do realise that despite being born in Australia Nathan Fien plays for NZ right?

The original point was Luke did what he did because Chase was born in NZ but playing for England...in much the same way Fien turned his back on Australia to play for the Kiwis...

| Because he used the NZ shirt to get rep footy, something he wouldn't have got with Aus.
Did Luke ever come up against Tonie Carroll? I bet he was angry that day!
Your trying to defend to indefensible, Luke is a grub.

This made me laugh after admitting he tried to deliberately break a players leg, he's not the brightest person is he?
