| Quote freddies wig="freddies wig"I'd love Wakey's situation to be fair. What about Halifax's?
Stadium
Champions
Grand finalists last year
Crowd Average over 2,500
Turnover over 1 million
Junior set up - admittedly just starting up again but has produced many players playing in super league now
Basically all boxes ticked and a successful application. We know we're not gonna get in cos we dont play in a MFI car park in Edinburgh. What do we get? A certificate!! Cheers RFL. And if we dont meet the onfield criteria over next licence process - a super league standard club not allowed to apply!!!
poop isnt it?
Funny how the wakey fans are not so supportive of the process now it may not be protecting their club's SL status eh?'"
Not trying to get a bite or owt here, but isn't the Shay only Super League standard when the North Stand is 'fixed', work which will only take place if you get 'promoted'?

| Even with those roofs added to Belle Vue, it's not the kind of stadium suitable for SL these days. It's good that improvements are being made, but they should have been completed a long time ago.
The roofs will make the view worse as well due to having supports located at the front.

As far as I'm aware, the council have already put the money forward to get it 'done up' and that process has started. Plus I don't think it completely off limits, just reduced capacity so it's still 10,000 capacity for the stadium (which is what it needs to be..???).
To be honest I'm not sure exactly either way, but it's more 'maintenance' that needs doing, hardly a new stand being build or anything of which will be done if we get into SL or not.

| It's not good that improvements are being made, in my opinion. Belle Vue will, in the very near future, be demolished. I would rather Wakey kept the money that would be spent on improvements and spend it on improving the infrastructure of the club instead.
Hopefully (and we have no reason to think otherwise) Wakey is now in reliable hands but I think the best for the long term future of the club is a spell in the championships. Re-build the club, get a new stadium and then build a powerful case for re-application to SL in 6 or so years time.
It's going to painful in the short term for Wakeys fans, but I think it's what's necessary for a strong Wakefield Trinity (please God get rid of the Wildcats name) to emerge in the longer term.

I thought the capacity requirement was up to 12,000 now? More chance of the North Stand redevelopment than your pink lot ever developing Tynecastle anyway eh, Tommy?
(Just trying to play a bit of devil's advocate and point out the inconsistencies in the 'grading' for licensing rather than poke a stick at 'Fax, by the way).

How exactly would that be the best doing it from the championships?
Anything that needs doing can be done from super league level.

Who from exactly and for what legitimate planning reason? I suspect they will look to deal with under delegated powers and it will never even see the committee room... if it does, they will nod it straight through... it is even less controversial than the planning application for my house extension! Also, some of it may not require planning with them being temporary structures, but the planning officers will make that call.

Not necessarily. Super League, in Wakefield's current state requires a lot of investment from Andrew Glover in order to bankroll the club. I think the best for the club is to go down to the Championship, consolidate, get the infrastructure of the club up to a top level, improve all aspects of the club off the pitch and especially get the future of where Wakefield will be playing long term sorted. I think this is done more easily from the Championship than in Super League where the demands to invest in the first team are greater and far more costly. I think if Wakefield were to stay in SL the temptation to put money into the first team instead of other areas would be too great and it would be to the detriment of the club. Wakefield need to basically sack off the next few years in exchange for a long term strategy for not merely eventual Super League survival but to be a major player in SL in the long term.
In the end whilst Andrew Glover obviously has a spare bob or two, he's no Russian oil baron and his money needs to be spent on long term stability not on short term benefit for Wakefield. The plans to spend a significant amount of money on a stadium that won't exist in a few years time don't fill me with confidence on this point.

They got it from press release last night, but it didn't specifically state that this was temporary solution until Newmarket is (hopefully) completed (which was clearly an issue with Wakey's press release with hindsight)! So journalists, added 2 + 2 and got 4.66666 recurring and filled in the gaps by assuming it should say something that wasn't actually said!
Did you hear that Cas have sold WR for £50m BTW!

I think it lacked sufficient clarification on the Newmarket issues yes... but does that give them an excuse to fill the gaps by second guessing?

What current state? How do you know what investment is required?
Glover took Wakefield out of admin and they are debt free
What aspects off the pitch need improving - that would be better served improving from a lower division?
Glover is ready to invest £500k into improving "aspects off the pitch" yet has stated that Wakefield will have full cap available to spend next season - if in super league.
I really dont know how you can make all those assumptions regarding the club and Glover, that he would put money into the first team to the detriment of anything else.
So if we go down that will be less revenue streams across the board, advertising, crowds and less willing private investors.
The future of where Wakefield will be playing long term wont be sorted any easier by dropping down a division.Indeed dropping down a division would likely have more adverse implications on where we play long term.
The improvements will cost circa £500k - so a £500k investment now or six years out of super league,im sure hes weighed up the options and im sure as a successful businessman Andrew Glover is the person best postioned to know what is best for him and the club.

| He is bloody good, you have to hand it to the guy!
This is my favourite bit "The rugby league team =#FF0000will move to the new 20-acre site in Glasshoughton by the start of the 2013 season."
Well, given Opus have told their consultant design team that they are planning to lodge the planning application in October at the earliest and don't expect a decision till February/March, also at the earliest (and very, very optimistic IMO), then they can't start till April on GH and they are working on a 50 ish week build programme then something is not adding up! Even Wakefield know that the best they can do is part way through 2013 and the reality is you move in for the 2014 season. They have also told their consultants to 'plan' for the possibility of a PI, then the word WILL should possibly say HOPE!
But he keeps it real by slipping the caveat in right at the end "However, the sizeable capital investment and subsequent job creation is dependent upon securing planning permission in the first instance for a retail scheme at Wheldon Road."
He should be in PR... some say he already is!
