What is lovely when this happens, is the indignation of (some) Saints RLfans. 'But... but... WE'RE [iSAINTS[/i!' My favourite was the last gasp try at NCP last year, ruled out because a player had been tackled. It was correct, but the sort of thing that 'big' teams so often get away with. Even watching the DVD back I half expected it to be given.
Success can spoil fans and, as has been pointed out, Saints have had a lot of success in recent years.  |

And what about the Aussies losing the first test circa 2001 when Bob Connolly reffed?
It was a deliberate ploy to ensure that their gripe against the referee carried more weight and that they could ensure that the future decisons went in their favour.
Thaler gave Saints the game. Things like this [inever[/i used to happen when John Holdsworth was around.
I propose that we look at referee's expenses. |

Seriously though, does anybody doubt that big teams (not just Saints, for whom bigness and the attendent bias is, in the long view, fairly new and almost certainly temporary) get more decisions than would be expected if refs were impartial automatons? |

They chuck the ball about and have earned their many recent trophies on a pretty level playing field. When and if we have a few years in the sun, we'll get a few more 50/50s, as we no doubt did in the mid-80s. |
