| The farcical RFL approach to overseas players is once again on show
How has Hep cahill been given a visa for the Crusaders? Who at the RFL approved this..and why?
This bloke managed around 5 1st team games last year. In a team with nothing to play for and with a great opportunity to 'blood' new players Cahill gets 5 games.
He has never played for an international team. The best he has managed is an appearance for the 'ethnic' maoris.
A couple of years ago wakey signed Winterstein. That was a farce but even he had played proper international rugby.[A player who is now also at the Crusaders.
bringing in a NRL fringe player with very limited 1st team rugby and no international experience is a joke.

| Crusaders don't follow the same Quota rules as their a new franchise.
Cahill getting a visa has nothing to do with the RFL.
There's plenty of overseas 'stars'' in SL who haven't got international caps.

| He's a better import than many others in SL. Being a fringe player at the Storm last year still puts him ahead of plenty of other imports currently playing. Ingerlund didn't mind picking a fringe Storm player in its Test team last year.

| If this Cahill bloke was English (or Welsh..) this thread would have looked so much different. There’s probably English players in super league that around the same standard or even worse than him. Yet where are them threads asking for them to be replaced by better talent?
It is nothing but mild racism and a local jobs for local people agenda once again. When people go on the pitch I don’t care about where they come from. I just care about how good they do on the day.
People should get in the side on the basis of how good they are and not on the basis of where they are from. Leeds Rhinos for one have benefitted from signings that we’re of similar vain to what the OP is detesting above. Cahill has obviously been seen as someone who can improve the Crusaders side so let’s wait and see what he does and then judge him.

| I don't know how good he is, but there's piles of decent young british 2nd rows knocking round. I'm sure Crusaders could have picked up a savvy loan signing until the end of the season and saved a few pennies.

So what you are saying then is its a farce to sign proper internationals It would appear that you have a bee in your bonnet about the Crusaders and their overseas players, and while your at it your having a dig at Wakey to endorse your point.

[When their international career is a couple of games for a South sea island team it is possible that there are many UK players of a similar standard. there are many players who have managed a couple of games for samoa / Tonga etc who have never made it as regular 1st graders. Is it so hard to let them prove themselves in the NRL first?
It would appear that you have a bee in your bonnet about the Crusaders and their overseas players,
[Please provide the evidence. they have tended to have 10-12 overseas players. How many posts have i done re their players having virtually no NRL experience? How many threads have i started on the topic?
and while your at it your having a dig at Wakey to endorse your point.
[Try not to be so dumb. Winterstein was an example of another unestablished overseas player getting a visa. It was a poor decision by the RFL...and Cahill has even less substance

100% wrong. The Borders agency check elligibility with the RFL. In these circumstances if the RFL say no then its a no.

Cant really see the racism point. I personally dont have too much of a problem with it, but it is hardly promoting development of rugby league in wales signing and filling a team with average aussies instead of blooding the welsh youngsters

I think that racism has become a dirty word in the last 10/20 years or so. There’s racism and then there’s racial hatred which are two totally different things. Racism is not liking someone because of who they are. Racial hatred however is someone going out of the way to make it as hard as possible for someone to get by peacefully on this earth.
I don’t think the latter is true of most people on here. Yeah they have an opinion that they’d rather have an average Englishmen than an average Australian playing in Super. But they also want superstar Australians over here – which just goes to show that the racism is mild and just limits to a certain type of player.
However once this player is on the pitch then I’m sure that most people will support that player regardless of where they come from. It’s the talk on here that’s a bit racist. But what get’s said on here, stays on here I hope. There’s nothing wrong with been a racist if it’s just an opinion. But racial hatred is something I’ve yet to see on here yet.

| Quote Damo-Leeds="Damo-Leeds"snip'" I think its safe to say that there's very few people these days who would hold race against one of their own teams players. Can you imagine saints fans booing leon pryce because he's black, or Tony Puletua because he's Maori? I would suggest the number of people who would resort to shouting racial taunts at opposition players will also be few and far between.
People just want England and the sport in England to succeed. They see certain kinds of signings as counter productive.

| Daniel Holdsworth was a fringe NRL player and has never played representative rugby but he's been great for Salford. Young English lads like Ratchford, Matty Smith and Sneyd are linking up brilliantly with him and probably learning lots in the process.
This guy could well be a great signing for Crusaders and help along some young Welsh lads. Maybe you should wait to find out before having a big, negative rant

I dont see many people being "Racist" against aussies though. I dont see anyone thinking british players are superior to Assies because of where they are from. I think the main issues that alot of people have is that they want to see our international team improve. And ,rightly or wrongly see Aussies as preventing some from getting there chance.
