5m No 2 man yes. 2 man will speed up the PTB and with the line still having to get back 10m this will open things up more.

Players might have to start shedding a few kilo to be a half yard quicker. this leads to smaller collisions and less injuries.

5m means line set quicker and fewer gaps AKA Union. Now wouldn't that be really great to watch?

I thought we could re-introduce the 3rd competetion with a 5 metre rule but make refs force a very quick PTB.
The shorter 5M should stop scooting being too successful, but a quick play should mean halfback will be getting good ball to play at the defensive line. I wonder whether it would help us get some of those Goulding/Gregory skills back into the game.
I'd compliment this with only taking 2 subs with 2 interchanges allowed, bringing a bigger fatigue factor. I'd also suggest only 1 overseas player in the squad, meaning teams would have to field more youngsters.

I like the game we've got, and wouldn't change the rules for the normal weekly rounds, but think the above could mix things up a little. Especially given some posters complain about the pointlessness of the weekly rounds.

Terrible idea. At what point does the ref decide the attacker has broken the tackle and allow a third or fourth defender to get involved? I can just picture yet more tedious video ref decisions with freeze-frame pictures to decide how many tacklers were in contact with the ball carrier at any particular moment. An example of a superficially good idea with little thought given to the practicalities of its implementation.
If you want a more open attacking game simply reduce further the number of subs and interchanges to take the emphasis away from big powerful (but one dimensional) forwards being rotated to continually batter the defensive line and allow the forwards to tire so the more skillful players can come to the fore.
Bring back the 'ball-playing' props of old.
