Quote ="Saddened!"A 5m rule would make it incredibly boring. It would be a defense-athon. You would barely have time to pass the ball from dummy half before the entire line stomped all over the team in possession.
I like the idea of a 2 man limit in tackles, I think that could work.
But the wrestle and most of the nasty, malicious tactics in the tackle seemed to have left Super League at the same time Maguire did. Massive coincidence that one.'"
I thought we could re-introduce the 3rd competetion with a 5 metre rule but make refs force a very quick PTB.
The shorter 5M should stop scooting being too successful, but a quick play should mean halfback will be getting good ball to play at the defensive line. I wonder whether it would help us get some of those Goulding/Gregory skills back into the game.
I'd compliment this with only taking 2 subs with 2 interchanges allowed, bringing a bigger fatigue factor. I'd also suggest only 1 overseas player in the squad, meaning teams would have to field more youngsters.
I like the game we've got, and wouldn't change the rules for the normal weekly rounds, but think the above could mix things up a little. Especially given some posters complain about the pointlessness of the weekly rounds.
