Welcome to the NEW RLFANS.COM. After twenty-five years of service, the old site expired over the last few days. To maintain service we have had no option but to make an early switch to the new site which was in development/testing. Some elements of the new site are unfinished, such as; page numbering and quotations. We will fix these minor issues as soon as we can, please bear with us. Quote ="Judder Man"Couldn,t resist the bite. />
That 4744 was the season average though in the 2nd division, lowest gate was around 3100. So my 3 x 3100 still stands as inferior than Rochdales objective of 10 000 for the one game. />
Saints average gate will probably be around 7500 I should imagine, which is not bad for an away following.'" />
That's poor for a team in the top four it's Not exactly 50 miles away from your old ground more like 8-10 which I find pathetic for a team that is one of super leagues best

I am a RL fan and always want what's best for the game.
/>
But in this case, Im almost glad Rochdale have been humiliated by getting only one tenth of what they were aiming for. In my opinion, you can't just neglect things all season then come out of the blue one day and say 'hey we're aiming for a crowd of 10,000' and expect the public to respond. It needs to be an on-going consistent effort.
/>
And as I said when this story first came out a month or two ago, 'stunts' like these should be done for the first match of the season or even pre-season, as a way to push the season tickets and start off strong to help your momentum going into the rest of the season. So what's their plan now? Back to mediocrity for the next 12 months then come out with a similar thing mid-2012?
I hope this farcical event doesn't effect their WC bid.

Except that the event was timed to coincide with Coops Fortnight which, given that Hornets are a cooperatively owned and run club, seems a pretty sensible idea.
/>
Every club in every league has "target" games. Wigan have it with The Big One and there are others too. Most clubs could probably do more but the fact that Rochdale were prepared to have a go should be applauded. They got a decent crowd, more than double their average, who witnessed a fantastic game and an excellent performance from Hornets and they raised a good deal of money for Mencap.

The match was timed to be part of the co-op fortnight they always said they were aiming for a record for their division the 10,000 figure came from that being the ground capacity. With sponsorship more fans were able to come from Workington than would normally have come.
/>
It is also not the only game of Hornets that as been themed, they have had a armed forces day the last game of the season is to raise money for the local hospice, and all the time the club are trying new ideas on raising crowds but it is a slow process.
/>
The club is run and owned by the fans they have no sugar daddies to help out and exist on what they make through games and the funding from the RFL
I can only see yesterday helping our bid as new sponsors helped sponsor the event and every little bit at our level helps.
/>
Instead of running the club down they should be applauded for trying something they doubled their normal gate and people saw a great game of rugby league and the thing about this game is that a great charity in MENCAP made money to carry out their work.
/>
I has a fan and member of Rochdale Hornets don't feel humiliated just the opposite I feel proud that our club has tried something different.

Consistency. Consistency is what more I want. I just don't like the fact that we hear nothing from them then suddenly this 10k thing comes out of nowhere. Why not take a more consistent, long-term approach towards growing the supporter base? rather than looking back at a graph at the end of the season and seeing a big spike in crowds in the middle, only for it to fall away as quick as it rose.
You guys are right by the way, I was being a little bit harsh on them. But I just hope they keep up their efforts and haven't already put the cue in the rack now for the season now that this Workington match is over...
