| Dont know why a load of you bulls are moaning, thought it was a good game right to the whistle. You have got to give both teams a pat on the back for the energy levels and intensity on display, or is it because its Hull KR and because its only our third season in super league and you won the world club challenge 4 years ago and you should beat us by 30 pts syndrome...rovers are,nt a bad side boys and i think your gonna see some new teams on the block this season. But ive had a good shout and moan at the ref seen a good game, had a decent burger, and had some good crack with you bulls. car parking is crap tho

I thought it was entertaining too fella. Certainly think that the defensive effort for KR was excellent and that it's going to be tight old season - assuming teams stay fairly injury free.
Which car park did you use? Wasn't Richard Dunn open today? - that's usually quite good.

Apparently the Hull KR fans had pulled up the traffic lights at Odsal top... traffic chaos trying to get out!!

| I've finally calmed now and will give my honest opinion.
I thought we lacked ideas on attack. We seemed to think that Big Joe was still with us and we'd just barrel over when sat on their try-line.
I can't remember a game where one side had so much territory and ball yet failed to win the game.
Players wise:
Platt is lacking confidence and you can see it a mile off. He had one good run (which resulted in a penalty to us when he took a high shot) and was being ultra careful not to have a brain fart..........until he thought he had twinkle toes and decided to take his man on in a space that even a bad woman driver wouldn't try to reverse into
Jeffries had a mare. Not sure how much the clattering he took off the ball early on had to do with it but why he was taking the second(?) drive in at 13-12 I do not know.
Newton threw more forward passes than an NFL quarterback - I have no idea how he got away with so many.
Burgess, Morrison, Scruton and Menzies had good games for me. I thought the try-saving tackle from Menzies near the end was world class. I wish we could have signed this guy 10 years ago. If he stays fit he'll be a great player for us.
A "minor" gripe or two.
McNamara said before the season started that "overweight / unfit" players would not make the side. Yet Solomona was in the 17 ahead of Worrincy. Granted Sol wasn't on long before he got injured but he didn't look that slim. I know this point is probably harsh but what statement does it give to the rest of the side?
A couple of situations during the match I wondered what Macca was thinking:
At one point we had Kopczak and Langley at prop (for all of about 3 mins before Langley got injured).
We had Godwin, Newton, Deacon and Jeffries all on the pitch at one point.
Menzies played 2nd row, stand-off, centre and probably loose forward too.
I know some of the above may have been forced due to the injuries but Kopczak played a solid 15 mins and was then withdrawn - for Jeffries I think - leaving us with one prop on the park.
It was depressing as it's the first game of the season and we were at home and had heard a lot of things from the club about how good we were going to be.
I'm sure we'll play better, I actually think that if we'd got a try early on in the second half the floodgates might have opened, but we will never know.
As an aside, I thought the catering options had improved and the prematch entertainment was better too. I think the "rock" music will work alot better when there's a big crowd on a Sky game (such as Leeds).
Rant over.
Oh - and well played Hull KR - most teams would have been dead on their feet making that many tackles.

| I thought bulls looked really good today we were out of sorts at time and made a few sloppy errors but that team will peak later on in the season I'm sure. i came away pleased with that.
Given that we gifted KR the first ry and the visitors were excellent in defence we looked quite good.

| I enjoyed the game today. There I said it. Despite all the frustrations it was great to be back at Odsal watching a game. Our pack is looking very strong, some of those hits in the 2nd half were immense. How Morrison wasn't MOM I'll never know.
Halfbacks needed to organise the team properly, I think Tadulala had one decent pass near the line (from Morrison) and scored. We had 2 or three classy breaks we should have finished, Deacon's brilliant kick to Sherrife and Burgess's short pass to Jeffries. If the halves could function together it would have been very different.

I suppose if you think about it like that then we didn't deserve the points, I hope that we find a way over the season or we may find ourselves underachieving once again.

| Quote Duckman="Duckman"Far more positives than negatives today IMHO. Part of the reason we had so much territorial possession was that our defence in the oppositions half and midfield was superb, and we didnt give away too many daft pens to gift easy yardage.
Morrison, Menzies, Nero, Scrutton amounst others looked good. Yes we made some crucial individual errors (jefferies and Platt guilty the most) and we looked very rusty in taking chances - but at least we got in the position in the first place, whereas in plenty of games last year we didnt even do that. (although our halves need a kick up the backside for next week)
Also, I think not enough has been said about the Hull KR defence, which I thought was excellent, they showed a real desire to defend their line again and again. So us not getting over even with all the possession was quite a bit to do with some excellent defence on HKR's part and they deserved their point on that basis if you ask me.
Anyone calling for McNamaras head after that game either didnt see it, or is (more likely) on the wind up.'"
However we may have possesion blah blah, its simple the aim of the game is to get points on the board and we simply didn't do tht. We had numerous oppourtunities to kick for the 2 points, but they couldn't get it in to there heads that hull were hard to break down.
They did decide to kick for goal later on however this proved to be too late.
Poor in attack today and we looked very slow playing the ball, bigger teams will murder us if we play like that again. I had high expectations for the bulls this year but seems to me asif im going to be having another stresfull year with them.
Last thing to say....McNamara out - lacks ideas totally.
I know its first game of the season but he should have gone ages before.
I will eat my words if we win some silver ware but looking on todays performance this looks highly unlickly.

The problem is that when people are so one-eyed, biased and completely impartial towards their team then any criticism towards said team will never be considered to be "balanced and considered."

Not really. The self same poster that claims that I should not voice an opinion because I was not at the game (a common view held by some on here I am afraid), then goes on to say that Hull KR at home should be a "good two points", which is a point that I had made and was being slated for making.
Anyway, you were not at the game BP so your opinion is worthless.

| Despite the scoreline, I don't think yesterday's performance was that bad; yes, there was a lack of cohesion at times (particulary with the halves and Newton) however given the disruption we had with injuries and the lack of meaningful preparation I didn't think this was too bad a performance.
I think people have a tendency to underestimate the impact that the cancelled friendly and league game had on our preparataion, and this will have been compounded by the lack of outdoor training caused by the recent bad weather.
The pack today were excellent, and completely dominatated a pretty good opposition pack. There's not many teams that will completely contain a set of fowards containing Fozzard, Vella, Newton and Galea. I lost count the number of times that the Hull KR players were completely smashed and driven back several yards.
From my point of view, this performance was very similar to Leeds' opening game against Celtic.... the difference being that we didn't have the luxury of playing a fixture that had been scheduled by the RFL to aid our preparation for a later showpiece game (against a team newly promoted to Super League.)
A few tactical changes by McNamara, a bit more cohesion, and I think this will be a fairly successful season.
Last thing to note; Scruton should have been MoM... his performance yesterday was immense! Leeds loss is definitely our gain.

Agree 100% with the above.
I was happy with a point with ten minutes left with the scores at 12-12 and as I read League Express this morning, Im still happy with a point.
