STEVE Ferres has quit as managing director of Bradford Bulls, with official confirmation expected from the club today.
The former Bradford Northern half-back, who enjoyed a long career in the game as a player, coach and administrator, was appointed when Marc Green took ownership of the club in March 2014.
He was effectively Green’s right-hand man and largely responsible for player recruitment during the past three seasons.
Chairman Green, who is currently on holiday in Ibiza, last week issued a statement defending Ferres’ record on player recruitment.
But Ferres, who enjoyed notable success as an administrator at York City Knights and also served as chief executive at Wakefield and Castleford, has opted to resign.
Players and staff were also expected to be paid today as huge doubts continue to surround the club’s financial state.
With Green still out of the country and Ferres now gone, Robbie Hunter-Paul currently in charge of operations at Odsal.

Thinking about what's been going on and something I wasn't aware of is that once WUP is advertised in gazette then that companies bank account is automatically frozen. So it might not be case that bulls have no money, just that they can't access it until after sept 5th when WUP is dealt with.
This may not have been an issue with previous WUP as they either didn't cover a payroll date or green was able to bills from his personal funds. What could be causing problem this time is if greens personal accounts are also frozen due to problems with safeguard.

I suppose there is a chance that this has all come about because of the safeguard thing, and the Bulls' assets were frozen because we're a connected party. But Green's statements didn't really seem to hint at that being the case, so I'm not sure. I'm still anxious despite the wages being paid today.

Don't take all the font of all knowledge that is Mick as the Oracle of truth.
That is not the case or else the bank accounts would have been frozen twice before.
It's due to his other companies in Liquidation that what is happening has happened. I know they are separate entities but they are under the same ownership therefore attract interest from HMRC.

Do a search for winding up petition and frozen accounts. All sites talk about it being usual procedure for accounts to be frozen from date WUP advertised until hearing. Nothing to do with us being linked via green to safeguard. As i understand it acounts will have been frozen the two previous times. Difference is on those occasions green could fund any bills that arose. This time his accounts are frozen too. |
