However (and I never know when they are running in which direction) surely the OP should if possible treat himself to a trip on a "Guided Bus", surely the ultimate transport white elephant in recorded history? Complete with chicanes, crossovers, umpteen dedicated traffic lights and junctions, singing bus-shelters and all the rest?

It is quite a sight. Lord knows how much it cost. A simple "bus lane" with some cameras to deter car drivers using it would've been suitable. Those enormous orange bus shelters blend in so nicely with the surrounds too
