This is in absolutely no way a p155 taking thread as I'm sure we'll all agree financial problems getting in the way of your club progressing considering the real hard work that goes into running a Rugby league club and the work of volunteers can be heart breaking at best.
The thing also is that this isn't actually - in real terms - that bad now that HMRC have lost their approved creditor status they are really quick to serve winding up notices at the first opportunity. They'll probably just have a meeting about a new payment plan and that'll be the end of it.
It does ask the question though about the club's cash reserves during the off season when gate receipts are nil and thus cash flow is minimal. This is bound to have a detrimental effect on player signatures and retentions for next season which is really cutting your nose off to spite your face from creditors as if the club can't sign and retain the best possible players they take less cash in and inevitably find it harder to pay back what is owed.
[uThis also puts the spotlight on another issue for me. That is this obsession of the RFl that everyone moves into brand new state of the art stadia.[/u Wakefield's directors (like every other club that hasn't already got or is lodging in a football team's state of the art ground) must be lumping everything into the new stadium that they hope to build.
This obsession is in my opinion both shortsighted and self defeating. The RFL need the best possible product on the pitch to gain the revenue from sponsors and media outlets. That must be their priority. Secondary is the spectator facilities. In an ideal world the current view expressed by RFL would be correct however having just passed out of - and the strong possiblity of re- entering - a period of recession they should do the right thing and scrap that criterion from the Super league license application process.
TBH I think a lot of people in RFL probably agree with that but they seem so slow to react that they are probably plugging away with a process decided upon years ago.'"
No, not everyone, just teams with inadequate stadiums. Were meant to be an elite European competition, not Billy's Hotdogs Regional Division 3. Teams have been ploughing money into their first team squads for years and spending diddly squat on their facilities, only when the RFL started making stadiums part of licensing criteria have teams actually started making a concerted effort to improve their facilities. Do you really think Saints and Salford would be this far along with their new stadiums if the RFL had said 'forget about the stadiums, your alight for another 10 years'? If Wakey or Cas can't build new stadia then there are teams in the Championship with better facilities and potentially equal fan bases that can take their place. Teams who can spend their income on their playing squads AND have the 21st century stadium's too.
