Quote ="sgtwilko"If I was a Saints fan i would be much more angry asking why Thailer (who I like as a Ref) at a scrum went back and checked from the play the ball for a saints knock on when the set ended with saints kicking the ball into touch??? WTF! When did this become a thing??? This should be done everytime or not at all. If the play brakes down and it's a 50/50 on which team knocked on then of course they should check it. But what we had on Thursday was one team being unfairly scrutinised and not the other.'"
He checked EVERYTHING Warrington asked him to, he gave quite a few decisions purely on calls from Warrington players, like the ridiculous knock on call against Walmsley. Ratchford being told to stay down until the video ref overturned the referees decision was such poor refereeing as well. He also quite clearly saw the knock on in the build up to Ratchford's try, as he put his whistle to his mouth, stepped forward, then waved play on. I note he didn't then go back to check the decision once the try was scored.
Sky are also partly to blame. NOTHING should be on the big screen during the game other than TRY or NO TRY decisions, showing EXACTLY what the video ref sees. What happens now is players watch the footage, tell the ref he's got it wrong (When he often hasn't) and some refs ignore it and others bow to the pressure and overturn their calls. The crowd goes mental, baying for a decision for their side. There were seven replays of the tackle on Ratchford before the video ref was persuaded to change the decision. The video ref shouldn't be able to see the game live, he should get no feed other than the decision he's asked to adjudicate on, he shouldn't know the score or the context of the game either.
