Welcome to the NEW RLFANS.COM. After twenty-five years of service, the old site expired over the last few days. To maintain service we have had no option but to make an early switch to the new site which was in development/testing. Some elements of the new site are unfinished, such as; page numbering and quotations. We will fix these minor issues as soon as we can, please bear with us. If you are having problems logging in, please try a different browser or platform, if problems persist then email support@rlfans.com

I`d keep Flannery over meli if we are looking at someone to play centre.
/>
But meli can cover wing very effectively.
/>
I wouldn't keep both.
/>
Hargreaves would have to come very cheap and i think will get a deal purely on the basis that we are losing a couple of props.
/>
Clough is a keeper.

Wello - Its a hard call with wello, he's been one of the outstanding players in super league for many years. He is safe as houses at the back and would die for saints. We all know his pace is a problem but I feel he's to important to the team to not offer him a deal. His support play over the last month has been outstanding! I'd offer a 1yr deal with the option of another year.'" />
Wello is the tricky one for me and I can't disagree with that assessment.

He is a squad player but because maurie has been out all year he's become a regular starter.
/>
He never let's us down and IMO is a good player to have at the club.

Well, take Meli. He's played out of his skin this season but it's contract time so I'm not entirely sure I trust he will play out of his skin next season if we re-sign him. But even when he's playing out of his skin and tucked away at centre - a position that suits him IMO - he's still a bit of a liability both in attack and defence. I suppose I would keep him on if we had no-one else to fill his spot (and a backup as well given our recent injury history).
Flannery - again, he has done well for us and I think works very hard. But have we not got young guys who could do as good a job for us next season and who might enable us to get another bruising prop from foreign lands to ease the burden on Jammer further? I'm not sure we actually need Flannery next season, except he can cover at centre if we are once again crippled by injuries.
/>
Bryn - well, he made a super fine pass at Wrexham to set up a try so he is well capable of playing some good rugby. I suppose I would keep him on reflection as we need to have a few good squad players who can bolster the team when needed.
I think we just have to be careful not to close the door on our young guys. Where will Emmitt be, for instance? Or Dixon, Ashurst and Magennis? We need to grow these guys surely?

I agree pretty much with all of that, its bloody frustrating that its always when its contract time that players suddenly wake up, I remember Meli doing it last time his was due and Flannery this year has at times looked the prospect we'd signed in 2007 both are clearly talented enough when they have their game head on.
/>
The only way around it is with 1 year deals to keep players on their toes but all that will mean is if the get offers they will go to somewhere that will give them 2/3 years, if they play as they have for the majority of this season and they are worth new deals but I guess its always the chance you take as to next years form.
/>
We do need to nurture the youngsters but if we are losing Maurie, Fozzard, Gidley, Cunningham and signing Shenton, Perry, Soliola (like a new signing) and maybe LMS then they should hopefully still get plenty opportunity to kick on in 2011.
