Obviously NOT every citizen of Wakefield,or townsfolk of Castleford are anti semetic.Its wrong very wrong to shout anti semetic abuse,but Leeds being the city that it is anti semetism is one of the targets they aim for.Some of the more enlightened ex miner's,trade unionist's from those area's will know that over 100 years many jew's were very active in the trade union movement.

I don't get it to be honest - there's a lot worse things I can think of being called than Jewish - it's hardly an insult at all. TBH it say's more about the intelligence of the abuser than the ethnic origins of the abusee.

The bloke making my wedding suits is Jewish. He's got hands like coal shovels. How he holds the needle and thread I have no idea, but his whistles are top notch.

Get yersel down Asda, they've got some cracking whistles for about £50, fit where they touch but you'll be puking up over it at 2am the next morning so who cares ?



I went to my famous cousins celebrity wedding a few years ago, top posh country hotel rented out for the weekend, paid for by a gossip magazine, boatload of celebs, and me.



I made it a personal challenge to wear the cheapest possible suit that I could for his wedding so I went to Matalan and tried on their £28 suit, yes, a full suit for £28, I can honestly say that I tried it on in the changing rooms, looked in the mirror and realised that I'd just crossed the line, I couldn't possibly wear that suit in public.



But I did buy the next one up - £48 for a suit for a posh celebrity wedding, fook 'em, no-one was looking at me, apart from those who were pointing and saying "Have you seen the state of that".



Better story that.

I don't think the Missus would go for that... Plus I've already given Mr. Luper a decent wedge of my hard-earned already, it would seem such a waste now.

I went in a Catalans sweatshirt to Wembley the year they got to the Cup Final ... I had Hull FC fans coming up to me and saying 'Bonjour', 'Avez-Vous Un Cuppa' and similar rubbish ....

It's not solely the accusation of being part of the tribe that's at issue. It's that coupled with an inference that it makes you less of a person and is often accompanied by a foul tirade about stereotypical views on what it is that Jews do, how death is too good for you and how Hitler didn't go far enough.

A lot of jewish people initially started to support Leeds RL as a way to integrate and identify with their adopted city. As Leeds Utd became more successful a large amount of jewish folk changed their allegiance to Leeds Utd. The amount of jewish money that was going into LUFC was alluded to humorously by the saying;

"Leeds RL rely on Lewis Jones, Leeds utd rely on jewish loans".

The population of Leeds jewry has declined massively down the years which would be linked to a drop in jewish support for the club, along with the previously mentioned defections to the more successful Leeds Utd.

Before LEEDS PARISH CHURCH dropped out of the Northern Union they had a reputation for rowdy unruly supporters,and the bulk of those fans came from the Bank,mostly Irish,and the nearby Leylands who were predominantly Jewish.Must have been uncomfortable for the Anglican parishioners and church elders.Little wonder they dropped out of the League.

Nope, it's a silly post end of.



If you took Leeds, Wakefield and Cas fans and got there true opinions I suspect all three clubs would have a similar number of anti-semites and general racists - what that percentage would be I don't know.



Also the citizens of Leeds have no moral high ground to stand on when discussing this ages - your roundball team has the biggest selection of thugs, racists and general richards of any club in England and that takes some doing - so to judge other places as hotbeds of racism is a touch rich - though sadly typical of a large minority of Leeds people. Very sad.

Leeds Utd draw more supporters without a Leeds postcode than with a Leeds postcode. We have massive numbers from Bradford, Wakefield, Dewsbury, Batley, Doncaster, Castleford, etc, etc. In the 80's and 90's a disproportionate number of people linked with and arrested for Leeds Utd football violence came from Wakefield and the "five towns". What does that tell you ?

It is a funny old world,I live in Huddersfield and have never heard any anti semetic charting at Leeds game and i am also a Jew and have a star of David round my neck and have never been racially abused by my local community.



It is a funny thing i remember the late 1970's and only 1980's going to Elland Road and there were real racist anti semetic fans there, watching Leeds playing Spurs the Kop would sing Spurs were on there way to Belsen etc. It was haunt outside the ground for every far right nutter from the National Front and the British Movement. But from what I can remember Leeds at the time were a Jewish club owned by a Jewish family the name I cannot remember.



But times have moved on there will always be the odd sad case, but I feel if we ignore them they will crawl back under the stone they have come from.

Silver?

Mr Leslie Silver was chairman of Leeds united when utd won the championship with Wilkinson as manager. Owned and ran a large company called kalon paints.

Sounds like a good all round bloke, I believe he was awarded an Obe.

A pal of mine has contacted me with more information on Mr Silver, apparently he was in the Royal Air Force in the Second World War . So all the puerile anti Semites take that on board.

When I was a very young man, I delivereed the Sunday papers to Leslie Silver's house, he always had time to say hello and ask how you were. Much later in life, I worked for his son Mark on a number of projects and he is an equally decent fellow.



Regrettably, racism exists in all walks of life and, to some degree, in all geographic locations. It is in our tribal nature to be prejudiced and it takes education to get past that flaw. The problem is we can't teach the vast majority of our children to read and write, let alone to obtain social empathy.
