Hull have been at the top how many times in the last 30 years? But of course the times they did, there was an reserves league or a under 21's league. You see the difference with that? under 21's with over age allowed to play is completely different to under 19's.

Your also missing the point that the ones with the reserves are not just at the top, or top half, they are way ahead of the rest. A big difference.



You might not agree with reserve league, I didn't earlier in the year, you might want a different format, but anyone who can't see the benefit it has had for teams this year is seriosly naive.

again I'm still not sure of the relevance. You seem to be trying to link Bradford and Leeds current struggles to lack of reserves but if you think really hard enough it will dawn on you why it cannot be the case.



No sweetie pie. Let me explain why. A super league season is a closed system. There are a limited number of interdependent actors within it, ergo reserves can only be a causal factor for hulls success if not all actors within that system have it. For the years where there were reserves and everybody had it. It wasn't a causal factor for hulls success, for the years when no one had it, it cannot be a causal factor for hulls failure. Even if there was a clear correlation between there being a reserves and Hull being successful it couldn't be a causal factor because 11 other sides would have the opposite correlation to the same factors.

And you are missing the point that the top teams are usually way ahead of the rest. In fact bar leeds and Hudds you would expect those sides to be way ahead of the rest. And we can discount the struggles of Leeds and Hudds as being down to reserves because of the 11 sides who have overtaken leeds only 4 of them have reserves.

IMO it’s too soon to measure the success/failure of reserves since many clubs haven’t even completed 1 season with them.



The main point in favour of reserves given by those in development is to give 19s a chance to develop so this benefit is unlikely to be see immediately. It requires patience – something all too rare in RL. I’d look again in 3 or 4 years and see if more late developers are coming through.

This is how i'd view it too. I would like to see Leeds have one and I do think the teams who currently do have a reserve side will see the benefit IN TIME, but you're looking at after 12-18 months of running it, not after 3 games spread out over 3 months like Gotcha was thinking earlier in the year.



At the moment it's limited to how quickly it'll help because of how few teams and matches are played. Wigan have played 6 games in almost 6 months......that's not why their first team is around the top of the SL table.



If reserves were the key to this season's table then why have Saints gone from finishing 10 points clear of Hull before the split in 2015 to currently being 8 points behind them? Why are Leeds behind the likes of Wakey and Widnes who also don't have a reserve side?

I have not seen much of this guy but saw him a few times last year and he looked to have more raw athletic potential than baldwinson. Not saying he is a better player now. Probably a bit of a project if these rumours are true.

Looks like it's going to happen as Peter Smith normally has the club's blessing to write about things.

Mssrs Hetherington and McDermott were both at Batley today. Obviously a few dual reg players in Fev team, Golding Baldy and Mullally, none really stood out. Ormondroyd was at 13 but was very disappointing for me. Missed several tackles before going off after about 25 mins and the tackles he made had poor contact. He returned in 2nd half but not for long.



As i previously said he was best player on park in pre-season game versus a very young Leeds team.



Based on 2 games ive seen him have since that this isnt a signing we should be making.



Big well built athletic looking lad but wonder if he has the stomach for Super League.
