| Would also point out that our dead cat bounce happened to coincide with games against a freefalling Hull kr and Toulouse. Anyone expecting an encouraging win v wakey being followed by the usual anticlimax the week after? Our team simply ain't all that good.

| Tetevano is stealing a wage. Needs to go end of season unless he picks up big time. One of the biggest flops ever. Up there with Bradley Clyde and Brett Mullins

| I thought Broadbent played well in his first few appearances barring Saints, looked one of our most threatening attacking wise. Didn't see the KR match or todays though. Shame if his defence isn't up to it as I like him in attack.

| O'Connor did a spell at dummy half today. He did OK but you would expect johnson to get a chance there 1st. Although O'Connor is generally an excellent defender, so whether that has persuaded Smith to give him an opportunity there first I'm not sure.

| I did warn last week about discarding the younger players and bringing back from long absences players who have failed all season . Now is the time to be brave and bold and give more players from the reserves a chance they may struggle but Mr Smith will have more information about them next season when most of the senior players will be leaving. The first action must be appointing Gannon captain immediently which may prevent him being poached by the NRL.

| Quote brantonrhino="brantonrhino"Hi, I read the forum alot but hardly ever post but this was a bit harsh on JJB, what were all his faults? Thought he did a good job in very trying circumstances'"
I was referring to his much quoted lack of vocabulary and trying to use words that have no relevance.
I wasn`t talking about his coaching faults even though he has had no SL experience he did well to rally the players and get the team spirit back.

Lack of vocabulary? He has an excellent vocabulary, used in the most bizarre ways. He basically converts preaching sermons from Church to team talks. All delivered with great passion and enthusiasm. I loved listening to him talking and disappointed not to be hearing more……

| I imagine that performance will have led to some players' cards being marked straight away. Smith has been very diplomatic so far but I think he has to show some real steel straight away, as this group of players just keeps turning in terrible performances with no consequences. You'd make allowances for long-term absentees being rusty and give them a few weeks, and some of the younger players deserve a run before discarding them, but what excuses do any of the others have?
We need a huge clearout at the end of this season, although the need for change is so great I can't see us doing enough in one off-season to make us genuine competitors. We're poor in way too many areas and the constant re-signing of hacks and laughable recruitment of overseas players has left us in an awful mess.

| Id add James Bentley in with Tetevano, he's been absolute e, offers nothing with the ball and we're just relieved he gets through a game for the full 80, tries hard, but is that enough? not for me, more penaltys conceded again yesterday. Terrible signing so far

Worrying isnt it, thought the same after the first Salford game when our pack Couldn't get over the top of King and Ormendroyd, honestly, they're an embarrassment.
Pleased to see Tyler get his super league career started though, he'l be a good SL prop in the not too distant future.

| It all starts with the forwards doesn't it? We have no go forward and that makes it really hard for the halfbacks to function. The problem is, fix the pack and the lack of quality spine will be the next big thing to fix....Can you imagine Peacock/Leuluai vs King and Ormondroyd?

Fwiw I don’t think that would be as one sided as you’d think. King has been one of the be best props in SL this season and clearly Ormondroyd has improved a lot. They’d both get in our first choice seventeen……

| I have no doubt they'd get in our first choice 17. Would they at Sts? One maybe but not both. Salford are not a team that's going to genuinely challenge for the title, and their forwards just flattened ours. Again. Out hope is that Holroyd gets and stays fit, Prior has more left than we thought and Gannon just keeps progressing. But even with all of them available we're a genuine prop short.

Is “thought for today” still on radio 2, Shabba?
Perhaps you recite it on here and bring some spirituality whilst Smith attempts to lead us out of the wilderness to the promised land.

| a piece from the excellent Roy Francis biography which I am currently reading " we need two young, big prop forwards " this is referring to season 1964-5. I guess nothing changes really. Add to that a hooker who can actually pass the bloody ball properly too

| Just watched the highlights if you can call them that. Some of the misses on the edges were very poor.
Also, I’ve given tetevano the benefit of the doubt this year, but his ‘effort’ for their last try looked absolutely shocking.

| Quote ArthurClues="ArthurClues"Leaving aside the obvious front row issues, the sad truth is that in the key spine positions - full back, stand off, scrum half and hooker - our current options (with the possible exception of a fit Sezer) are nowhere near the best in the league in their position. The decision to extend Myler's contract was a classic example of our lack of ambition in this regard. Granted we are a better side when he is in it, but with 30 seconds thought I can name Field, Welsby, French, Tompkins, Coote and Connor. They are clearly much, much better Full Backs. Try the same exercise with Leeming and Austin and it gives you a sense of the size of the problem. Depressing.'"

The both club and the player have acknowledged he was playing with a debilitating groin injury for the early part of the season. That's why he's been out so long. At least give him a chance when fit. But that's not really your style is it, mate?

Even if we had no clue what he was talking about it doesn't really matter. Obviously the players seemed to cotton-on and were well motivated!

| Frankly I'm past caring about what some of our players think or feel. It seems like some of them need to have their hands held constantly on the pitch and off. Right now I hope they are focused on whether they are doing enough to stay at the club. If not the Championship (at best) awaits a fair few. I'm sure Smith will manage this better than I would, but there needs to be more than just motivation but some personal responsibility.

The lack of effort does not come from the groin injury , i guess we will find out that several others have had serious injuries eventually .
