I'm not sure this scenario was anticipated by Widnes though. I wonder if it was anticipated by the RFL in drafting the "rules" governing these contracts. If so then fair enough, Widnes have no complaints (not that they have complained anyway!!).
If not though, they've surely a right to feel a bit aggreived, and as Starbug says, it's yet another kcick in the teeth for Championship clubs fans.
Of course the wider picture is that this could mean an early death for an initiative designed to increase the oppotunities for the younger players in the country.

From what I can understand of it, its is a system designed to channel more youngsters through the hands of the SL clubs as opposed to Championship development programmes. Thus avoiding fees for talented youngsters from lower division clubs.
If you take a look at RFL policy over the last few years it appears that the majority of legislation is designed to favour the "elite" competition at the expense of all others.

Of course it is , the ' minimum wage ' rule they used a few years ago could have been challenged in court , if any club had had the balls and the money to stand up against it , but we dont , so they did it
