A friend of mine is a sports writer who has been visiting RL grounds around the country as part of a book he is writing.



Having mainly covered Hoofball before he was quite surprised on visiting his first ground at Widnes to find a white phone on the dressing room wall with a sign under it saying "Phoneline to God - £500 per minute." Confused he asked Paul Cullen what it was all about.



"There is one in every RL dressing room", explained Paul. "It's a well kept secret but RL is a tough sport and sometimes the boys need help from the big Chief."



"Fair enough" said my mate thinking Cullen was bonkers but a few days later he found the same sign at Wigan below a white telephone - "Phoneline to God - £500 per minute." He went off and found Brian Noble who told him the same story.



Still unconvinced my mate carried on his research and visited Warrington, Barrow, Leeds, Both Hull Clubs and Sheffield. At each one he found the same white phone on the wall - "Phoneline to God - £500 per minute"



Finally he arrived at the Shay last week but when being shown around the dressing rooms he noticed the same phone but a different sign. "Phoneline to God - 25p for five minutes"



Confused, my mate went and found Matt Calland. "I've seen this phoneline to God everywhere I have been," he explained. "But at every other club its £500 a minute. How come it's only 25p for five minutes here.



"That's easy," smiled Matt. "You're in Halifax now son. It's only a local call from here"
