It's the best hardware available and the best operating system too. Whether it's worth the money is up to you.

| iv had a look for the samsung appollo but prices are roughly the same as the samsung galay mini which i think i prefer for the same price but looking on asda iv come accross the t-mobile android rapport smart phone which is £49 and wondering has anyone any experience with this as a stop gap phone? the price is deffinately better for me but if its complete rubbish and just gonna annoy me id rather pay the extra 50 and get the mini but just want to know if anyone has any experience of one? thanks.

Personally I'd pay the extra for the Samsung.

| Due an upgrade shortly (i.e Jan 14th) and it seems a few have the Galaxy S2, which O2 are offering for less than what I'm paying now, free phone. I've looked at the Galaxy Nexus but its a little steep for my budget at the moment.
It decent? I'm familiar with the Android setup having had a HTC Wildfire for the last 6 months or so, just that struggles with anything decent from the market.

I've had a few phones over the last ten years or so, but I've never been happier with one than I am my S2. I can't think of anything I don't like about it, in fact.

hiya champ, i'm in exactly the same boat as you with o2 and some of the january sales stuff they've got going on seems pretty good, i was asking about the nexus and was on teh phone to them yesterday, couldn't get them to go any cheaper than 75 quid for the handest and that was about 37 quid contract.
The SII is top notch a mate of mine has one, i' think it seems a little wide for my liking so i've plumped for a sensation XE .
More than happy with that

| I've had an S2 for a couple of months. It does most things very well but what does puzzle me is that it's sometimes slow to display an email message. I'm only talking about a 5-10 seconds wait but on my last two phones ( Nokia N97 then HTC Desire ) e-mails displayed instantaneously. Anyone else find this?

Sounds like you are only getting the email header pushed out to you rather than the whole thing, the delay will be you pulling the email body down from the server, this is the most efficient way to conserve your data allowance.

| Contract help please
I started a 24 month contract with Three in September.
This morning I woke up with "no service". Thought that's fine, network problem, no biggy. But my dad - same phone, same network has no problems. So i phone up to see what the problem is. First person tells me I've been disconnected due to not paying a bill. All bills are paid and I've never missed a payment thanks to direct debit.
Next I get to a manager - "your contract has been cancelled by mistake" so now I have to wait 3 working days for a new sim to be sent to me so I can have a phone back. Not only that, the staff on the phone were extremely rude.
Surely I am owed something in this situation? I have asked to remain 'cancelled' and I'll go elsewhere. Apparently this can't be done as it was a mistake and the request to be re-activated has been made, plus a new sim has been sent out - depending on who you speak to, as 2 people I spoke to said nothing had been sent, yet the manager says it has even been sent out already!
Going into the Three store in Leeds to see what the deal is. I got it through carphone warehouse so may try them also.
Any advice?! Cheers

| Never had a phone with data before, looking at an I phone for the wife with 1gb of data per month. Is this a lot for a phone, she is unlikely to do more than send the odd e-mail or maybe look at the weather.

Should more than enough. You'd get away with 500mb data if it really is that casual browsing. If it saves you much money I'd go for 500mb if poss. I got 500mb and used Facebook, YouTube, all sorts while out. Don't forget you can use WiFi at home/work

I had a similar problem with O2 a couple of years ago which lead to me being unable to use my phone for about 14 days. I was willing to accept it was a genuine mistake but the way i was dealt with and spoken to by several staff meant i had a proper tant. They were very rude-in particular a manager whos name i took.
I even wrote a real letter with a proper pen and everything.
It lead to me getting 3 months free anyway.

I hope it doesn't get to that stage. I will be complaining with a letter though.
The main thing that annoyed me was the blatant lies from some of the staff, and the rudeness.
So angry! Surely as they cancelled my contract, that's their mistake. If I don't keep my end of the deal by paying my bills, I get penalised, why should they just say sorry you had no phone for a week, keep paying us please?

You've just answered the first part of my question - cheers !
Second part then - I'm looking at a Sony Xperia Ray at £15.99 a month (phone "free"icon_wink.gif from Virgin Mobile, I already have a company Blackberry so want the personal one mainly for browsing the web etc, I make few personal phone calls and fewer texts but use Facebook and my blog site quite frequently, the Virgin offer has free Spotify access for 3 months and then use of Spotify without eating into your 500mb allowance after that if you're a Spotify Premium user - thats the bit thats attracting me.
Decent deal ?
PS - Wi-fi access at home and work too.

So the Spotify after the free trial runs separate to your 500mb? You'll be paying a tenner a month for Premium too, but you have the ability to make offline playlists which is handy. I use it on my iPhone.
It's not a phone but have also looked at the BlackBerry Playbook tablet? PC World are doing them at £169. They sync with the phone too so you can email etc, but it goes through your phone - emails etc are never saved on the tablet. Would be more handy for your blog?
The Ray though does look alright. Never been a big Sony mobile fan, I don't know why!

I'd need to read the small print but according to the Virgin Mobile bullet points ...
Quote Steve-OMillions of songs, available on your computer and on your mobile
Wirelessly sync all your playlists to your smartphone
Listen offline, or over 3G without using up your Mobile Web allowance
No adverts
Listen to songs with superior sound quality
Hear new albums before they're released
You can get Spotify Premium on the Samsung Galaxy Ace, Sony Ericsson Xperia ray, Sony Ericsson Live and the HTC Desire S.'"
I already have Spotify Unlimited at £5.99 a month as all three of us in the house used up the free allowance pretty quickly so the extra £5 on top of the £15 for the Sony handset would be worth it and still less than what I'm paying on a different Blackberry handset.
I could be tempted by the BB tablet but then I'd need to keep a BB handset, can get one on Virgin for £10 a month so it might be an option but I've heard rumours about the BB Tablet and none of them very good, I also like the idea of a mobile handset in the pocket when I'm travelling, so back to the Sony option !

| Avoid the Playbook, it's been crippled from the start by lack of email without having a BB phone, the list of apps is tiny when compared to iOS and Android and with RIM being in danger of going titsup (or worse being bought by Microsoft) things are not looking good.

Only if you root it, jailbreak it and install all sorts of warranty busting hacks.
Still won't do Blackberry email though.

But if what you say about Blackberry is right, warranty won't mean much anyway. And I only put the idea out there as the OP actually has a Blackberry so could use it the way it was intended for emails etc. Can still just use email through it's browser too can't you?
It was just a suggetion as it was a reasonably cheap option and IMO a better solution due to siding more on the browsing/blogging aspect rather than an out and out phone.
