| Quote BrisbaneRhino="BrisbaneRhino"We had a documentary on the ABC (equivalent of the Beeb) the other night re Trump. The most interesting thing by far was when the female reporter was talking to a couple of older women who voted for Trump. She tried several times to elicit some kind of outrage on behalf of all women re Trump's misogyny, but she couldn't. It was like they were talking a different language (including a fair degree of patronising tone thrown in for good measure).
In a nutshell that interview summed up for me the gap between the mainstream 'liberal' media and a big chunk of society. Its not so much that these women weren't outraged, but the reporter simply could not comprehend why. They might be dumb and ignorant, but she had a total and utter failure to comprehend their views and as a result had no way to communicate with them.
Replace sexism with racism (or immigration) or protectionism and I expect you'll see exactly the same kind of non-communication with many 'average' people who voted Trump or Brexit. What passes for the mainstream has moved on and just doesn't get that a large section of society not only hasn't moved on but doesn't want to, and more to the point resents being told they are fools or bigots for not agreeing.
I genuinely struggle to see how the generally upper middle class mainstream media can re-enage (or in many cases engage for the first time) with these people.'"
The liberal left are wholly intolerant and censorious of alternative views. They seen incapable of seeing the irony in the rabidity.

Although I agree with your last comment, it was the upper middle class that voted for Brexit over here.
The Brexit protesters, who want things to happen instantly, are the over 60's, you know, the ones that read the Daily Mail & Telegraph and always turn up to vote.
They remember when Britain was Great and we ruled the commonwealth and taught the world to read and write.
The "average people", slightly disaffected with politics after the banking crisis , just follow the lead from the tabloids, which just happen to be owned by the right wing Tory loving press.
I get that many, many people are p'd off with the way things have been and who can blame them but, change for the sake of it, isn't neccessarily a good thing.
After all Hilter filled a void and sold a dream to the masses.

Give me liberal left anytime (although it's certainly a new one on me) . it's eminently preferable to anything associated to Farage.
I'll leave you to select one of the many titles that have been attributed to him over recent months.
He's been particularly good at brown nosing Trumps rear end , not a place that too many people would want to go.

| It's good to know that the leader of the free world lies awake at night, wrestling with the really key questions impacting on world affairs. Like whether a topical comedy show is actually funny; or if the person impersonating him is doing a decent job. And then decides to troll China.

Oh fantastic, now him & Putin are planning on upping the ante re Nuclear Weapons.
www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-38410027
I remember the last "Arms Race" & it sucked.
I fondly recall one Sunday morning, back in the day, when the siren went off (obviously a malfunction or human error, probably the second) but I rushed into the room to see if there was anything on the telly, but the short time it took me to realise Armageddon wasn't happening that day, it was forever engraved in my memory.

I grew up in North Manchester, my parents' house overlooked the city from a hill about 6 miles away. I vividly recall hearing the siren going from time to time, clearly drills of some sort, but spooky as hell and a little confusing as I'd only ever heard that particularly haunting form of siren in black & white WWII movies.
I also recall at about age 7 being absolutely terrified by a news report which explained the various degrees of damage if a typical Soviet device were to detonate over Manchester.
And yet I still handled it better than Generation Snowflake handles anything.

Now it would be:
"If you feel comfortable doing so, get into the bath. Please do not fill the bath with water. Remain clothed. See app for details."
"If you feel comfortable doing so, move beneath the stairs. If your local housing authority has not provided you with stairs, you may be entitled to compensation. See app for details."
"If a member of your household has passed, please call our Grief Helpline. If our Grief Helpline is unavailable due to thermonuclear conflict, you may be entitled to compensation. Please do not touch the deceased for fear of infection. See app for details."

| So the US has all but declared war on Russ... I mean Syria. That didn't take long. A supposed chemical attack with many of the victims being children is being used as the smoking gun. It's like 92 all over again.
It also makes no sense that Assad would do this, given that he's winning the war, and the US recently suggested they weren't considering escalating military action. Why would he choose to incur the wrath of the world by doing this when he doesn't have to?

Apparently, but they've said that before and it turned out that it wasn't the Syrian government. It just strikes me as odd that it's an almost identical narrative to the apparent attack that occurred in Kuwait prior to the first Gulf war.

That isnt going to happen but, with Russia stating that this is just one step from war, another chemical attack will really test both sides (America & Russia).

| I deliberately didn't post because the likes of Cronus would claim he had a contact in the town that got bombed to prove I was talking rubbish but Charlie Sheen is spot on. If you believe what the news tell you I feel sorry for you.
By the way, Trump made close to a billion dollars overnight by bombing Syria. Just look how many shares he owns in the company that makes the missiles and how much their share price went up overnight after launching at Syria.
Let's not forget that the UN confirmed that The Syrian government had got rid of its chemical weapons

Shares in Raytheon have been climbing steadily anyway since around 2010, though incidentally they were worth a lot more only 3 weeks ago. Yes, total market capitalisation was around a billion for Raytheon at one point (+3%) but later normalised to close around 0.8% up.
BTW, it's unlikely Trump made a billion - he owns less than $15,000 in shares.
He owns stock in several hundred companies. Almost every decision he makes will cause market fluctuations and therefore affect his portfolio value but I doubt he bombed Syria to make about enough for his annual supply of hair spray.

I don't trust anyone. Especially people who claim it's easy to fly planes into the twin towers like you did, despite one of my best mates who's been a pilot for BA for 25 years who claimed he and his colleagues tried it on the simulator and failed miserably. So please tell me why you said it was so easy. What experience do you have? What is your role in the aviation Industry. How long have you been a Pilot?
