Got gingerbread on HTC desire s and battery is pretty good so far, although that is a smaller phone than the HD. I'm going to flatten the battery then give it a good charge see what we get.

| How much is 1GB of internet usage? Looking at getting an iphone, and the offer with 3 is £29 for the phone inc 1gb of internet a month - but for using twitter, ebay, bbc, sky sports apps etc, would that be enough each month or would i end up going over that usage by looking at/using those apps everyday?

I'm on that deal with one of my phones and I download apps, have self-updating apps running and am constantly on the internet and I've never gone over the limit. I'm using about 850mb a month. That is with an Android phone, I'm not sure if there is a big difference with an iphone, I'd doubt it.
Obviously I use Wi-Fi where possible and always at home. Good thing with 3 is they will send you a notification that you are approaching the limit, and you can check it via 'my 3' from your phone so there is little risk of accidentally running up a bill.
I think unlimited is only £5 extra isn't it? I've found 3 are very willing to negotiate with bolt ons if you ring up and moan about them.

Yeah, it;s only an extra fiver for unlimited but the cost of the phone jumps up £50 too on that plan, so thought if 1GB is enough, i can save the fiver a month and the 50 quid difference in the cost of the phone.

I find for general use it's fine i.e. viewing a few of you tube vids, facebook, twitter, etc, occasional music streaming. If you're thinking of streaming a lot of music or video you'll go through it pretty quickly though.

Yeah, that's all i'd be using it for each month really, and the odd song from itunes, but wouldn't be using it for downloading/streaming other music or watching video other than thru youtube.

| Just make sure you use your WiFi for all downloads where possible and you'll be fine. I get 500mb on 3 and never go over and I'm always on Facebook at work where there's no WiFi!!!

1gb is plenty for 'normal' Smartphone use, social networks, emails, odd couple of minute videos on youtube etc.

| Phone contract is up and looking to move to a smartphone.
Ideally I would have liked the HTC HD but it will cost too much per month.
So I am thinking the next best options will be either the HTC Desire S or the Galaxy S2. Which of these is better and are there are any others I should consider?
Thanks

Without a moment's hesitation the Galaxy S2 of those two, its the pretty much the best smartphone out there right now and I include the iphone in that. Although, if you like the HTC's better build quality and Sense UI, the HTC Sensation is very nearly at the same level as the S2, it has a new updated version of Sense and a better screen if you read alot of text (the S2 is better for images and arguably video). The HTC is only available on Voda at the moment but will be on other networks this coming month.
Both have a dual core processor, can film in '1080p' hd and have 8mp cameras if you like that sort of thing.

Contract is up on 12th June so I will see what deals are available but I don't want to spend more than £25 per month so it looks like the HTC Desire S. I can get 300 mins, unltd texts and 500mb internet for £25.00 per month plus 8 months free of the 24 month contract.
Thanks for the help.

If your contract is up bitch at them, threated to leave and you may be able to get a better deal over 18 months with a better handset.

| Due to 3 reasons:
1. Come to detest current phone (Palm Pre - HP who now own Palm seem to have abandoned the UK market, and I wouldn't mind a smartphone that isn't 2 years out of date and cannot be updated)
2. Contract isn't up until March (my fault for taking out a 24 monther)
3. Bit of cash windfall from Mother that is intended to be spent on a gift for myself
I've decided to get a new, sim-free phone. Amazon currently have a HTC Wildfire, sim-free for £170.
Anyone got any experience with them? I've had a play with a mate's Desire S and really liked it, I assume the Wildfire is similar but somewhat of a downgrade. I'm not looking for top of the range stuff, just a decent Android phone to tide me over until upgrade day (and not particularly fond of Samsungs)

It's good mate, I've had one since last September and I've had no problems with it. It's a downgrade from the Desire and all that but basically it does the same job just on smaller scale. Really good phone only let down for is the Android apps.

mainly because the quality of the phone isn't as good the apps are quite low quality too mate. To be honest the only ones I use are Racing Post, Facebook and a couple of fitness ones which aren't too bad but the higher quality phones would probably give you a better quality and quicker running app. But in general the Android apps aren't great, the ones available are quite crap although it is getting better and I'm noticing quite a lot of Iphone apps are becoming available in android so it is getting there.

Quite crap? I've used both an iphone and an Android phone and I prefer the Android store. It has loads of quality apps and unlike the Apple store isn't just what Apple want you to have/do on your phone. There are a few fantastic customisation apps on Android, like Beautiful widgets etc, and you won't get that on Apple.
Some quality apps:
Kindle
Google Street view
Power AMP
Reckless Racing
Lastfm
Tune in radio (Fabulous for Super League. You can get all the regional radio stations with none of the usual 'You cannot play this on the internet because of licence issues you get with streaming on a PC)
What kind of Apps from Apple would you like to see on Android? The only ones I ever see people with an iphone use are things like the Keith Lemon app.

Ah right, cheers Dan, much appreciated. Always hard to know what to go for really, just not fussed with an IPhone though for some reason (e.g. doesn't seem worth putting £100 towards the handset when a lot of the stuff I'll probably never use).
