The midday break is called lunchtime or dinnertime or both in one sentence. "im in detention at dinner miss so can I eat my lunch in your office?" Or I'm having a hot dinner at lunch today"



The evening meal is always, always tea though.

We shall not descend into that "discussion" again.



The same thing can have many names (as we've seen from the discussion above), I mean, you lot over there have Curd Cheesecakes whereas we call them Curd Tarts.

But, I have to confess, the best Curd Tart I've had was from Hull and was nothing like a cheesecake.

I was brought up on a strict diet of lunch being at dinner time (with the two being interchangeable) and tea being at tea time.



Of course, my mother when she moved to Warwickshire became Hiacynth Bucket and tried to surround her self with the neaveu rich. This result in tea becoming Dinner or even (more recently) "Supper."



It never caught on with me, much to her annoyance when I go down and in front of her new friends proclaim "What times mi tea lass? I'm that clempt mi stomach thinks mi throats bin cut."
