Welcome to the NEW RLFANS.COM. After twenty-five years of service, the old site expired over the last few days. To maintain service we have had no option but to make an early switch to the new site which was in development/testing. Some elements of the new site are unfinished, such as; page numbering and quotations. We will fix these minor issues as soon as we can, please bear with us. If you are having problems logging in, please try a different browser or platform, if problems persist then email support@rlfans.com

Quote ="Big Graeme"I find tablets pricey for what you get and can be quite under powered, having said that the first thing you need to do is add another 1GB of RAM to any netbook to get it to a decent spec so either get them to add it in the store or make sure you can do it ">yourself.'"
But surely as tablets run different software - it's all relative. They might look under powered on the spec sheet, but it don't think anyone using a modern tablet will find it underpowered. It will startup fast, resume instantly, launch applications quickly, switch applications quickly, render web pages quickly etc. Also, unlike that netbook (with its 320 GB 5400rpm disk), all tablets will use solid state storage.
I think how we look at hardware will change over the next few years - the assumption that more == better isn't always true when looking at portable devices. When discussing about the memory footprint reductions in Windows 8 against Windows 7, [url=http://blogs.msdn.com/b/b8/archive/2011/10/07/reducing-runtime-memory-in-windows-8.aspxSteven Sinofsky[/url made a case that 512MB of RAM is sometimes not better than 1GB:
Quote In any PC, RAM is constantly consuming power. If an OS uses a lot of memory, it can force device manufacturers to include more physical RAM. The more RAM you have on board, the more power it uses, the less battery life you get. Having additional RAM on a tablet device can, in some instances, shave days off the amount of time the tablet can sit on your coffee table looking off but staying fresh and up to date'"
Quote ="Enicomb"I'll just make this a short post and say Netbook over a tablet every time. Unless you have some particular need to use it with one ">hand.'"

Quote ="rover49"Looking to buy a smart tv 42" or bigger, anyone bought one recently to ">recommend.'"
Maybe it's just me not knowing what I'm looking for, but I really don't 'get' plasma. A bloke I work with tells me they're unbeatable, but I look and think the picture looks a bit dark and generally not that smooth. I was in Selfridges last night (God knows why, it's a horrible place), so I decided I'd try comparing a few of the TVs they have on show. All of the LED/LCD TVs they had out looked far better than the plasmas on show. When you went right up close, the detail looked much clearer, the edges seemed smoother and the colours were brighter and seemed more natural. I imagine if I was to go home and read a review on the TVs, the plasmas would probably win the review as they always do, but I really don't see why. As I said, maybe it's because I'm not an experienced eye, but I don't get the plasma love-in.

| Plasmas are better for the 47"+ TVs.
The latest LG range of LED Smart TVs have a great picture, we have one (42"icon_wink.gif and bar the sound (which all thin TVs have problems with now) it's a top notch TV.

Our other TV's are LG and we have never had a problem. Looked at the 47" LED 3D Smart version with built in WiFi yesterday and it looks great.

We've got a 47" 3D (Not Smart though) LG. The only problem I have is the poor quality sound but if you're connected to a surround sound system it will be fine.
