I see it as insurance in case one of our first choice wingers goes down (and that is always possible with TJ). Whatever the deal, we have a player on loan elsewhere, but perhaps better to have the one who can fill in better if we lose a key player in that position. I doubt they would have let Booth go if they thought he'd be with us from next year and beyond.

His contract is up with Rovers this year unless they extend, having taken Booth that's not going to happen, we can look at him and sign him for 26 and beyond

agreed, however the optics could be better.. Particularly given the player retention policy... Also the 'loan' aspect of the move could be better explained, we are losing a really talented young player and getting someone on loan in return... That really does echo the Trinity of old, regardless of the situation behind the decisions.
as an aside... One of the things I dislike intensely about the NRL is that a player can announce they are moving on to a new club, 12 months before they actually move. As a fan I don't want to watch a player playing for my club who has mentally moved on... I can't cheer for someone who has made that decision. Now that rule is in the UK and I still hate it... I like that Trinity have tried to work around that conundrum - Myers in through a transfer fee... Booth booted out early and NT brought in.

Have to admit I really don’t like it either. A player can theoretically sign two contracts for two seperate clubs in one day. One for 2025 and one 2026 before even pulling on a training shirt. I’m really not fond. It promotes 3/4 year deals and 1/2 year deals come with risk.
I’m not sure what was wrong with the old system. It worked fine.

Whether Booth has had his head turned I don't know but the optics still look poor to me .
The club have got most things right since Matt took over so it's disappointing to lose a young player like Booth who clearly has potential .
No-one who we want to keep will be moving because of money, however, as I said before HKR are ahead of us on the field so will be an attractive proposition. It seems like Booth had decided to go, and we've let him go early to secure a player we also have an intrest in, all be it on loan, to have a good look at him to see if we're still intrested next year.

KR are way ahead of us in terms of competing but behind us in youth products so are buying what they feel they are missing (although Booth isn't a product of our academy) and are an attractive proposition for players. I don't get the outrage really. He showed up well in the championship but never pushed anyone out of position, so why all the gnashing of teeth now.
Edit - Just seen it's a loan move, so the noise will increase but it doesn't change anything if Booth was off in 26 anyway, in fact it means we have an extra body for this season.
