Have to feel sorry for him, looked to have got himself into shape before pre season.
Im no physio but it simply didn’t add up to me the recent reports. As soon as Cartwright said we think he’ll be better with the op I knew it couldn’t have been just a knee clean out as suggested as there’s no way they wouldn’t have just put him in for it while in pre season, even if this late stage it would have only been a couple of games missed. Unfortunately for JA I think the issue with his knee must be more serious and not just a clean out that loads of players have on the off season.
If that’s the case the decision is correct for the club. The last thing we need is another Trueman situation. Even If we don’t get someone in straight away we’ll hopefully have a bit of wriggle room to make a move if someone becomes available.

1 year in the UK when he was about 6 years old?
My sympathies go to whoever would have interpret / rewrite the rule if that happened!

frees up a marquee spot but only £50k on the cap which will be restrictive unless anyone knows of a half back who came through our academy and would command marquee money?

I don't like the rule personally but Leigh have Lam and O'NEIL in under it and Wakey have young Vagana too. Wonder how much junior RL they played over here

We could still in theory move Jordan Lane (eg) onto the marquee spot even if he's only earning £70k. It would free up an extra 20k on the cap. I know it's really nothing much extra, but there is scope to put any home grown player on the marquee spot and as long as they're earning more than 50k we will get a bit of cap room back.
But yeah, it's unlikely to lead to any significant signing, but there's not exactly any significant players available anyway.

Does the last marquee spot have to be a player who has come through our academy, I thought it was just a domestic signing, so in theory we could sign Sneyd and only 50k would count on the cap.

If the rules are still the same as last year and not been amended further, the third player has to be just a Fed player. But you need at least one Fed trained player in order to have the full compliment of three marquee players.
